Ok, is the new Challenger on a Charger frame or not
« on: December 14, 2009 - 11:48:59 AM »
I have read articles saying yes and NO. Consumer reports says yes and MCG Mag says no. The mag even went as far as saying Chrysler said they had to make a new frame. However some guy in California said it was not necessary and was a waste of time and money. He actually made a 'cuda on the Charger frame. So what gives ?

Technically, neither the Challenger nor the Charger are on a frame.
Being "unicoupe" or unibody, the strength in the car comes from the rocker panels and the floorpan.
So, the question is: do the Charger and Challenger share the same stampings? Yes, and no!
The Challenger is based on the Charger floorpan, but shortened by several inches, which is the difference in the wheelbase. The trunkpan is unique to the Challenger. The framerails are the same between the two cars, and everything from the firewall forward is exactly the same in all of the LX cars, including the Magnum and the 300.
In addition, all of the suspension components can be swapped across the board on all the LX cars.

The new Challenger is indeed based on the LX platform (300, Magnum, Charger). When they modified it and shortened the platform, they dubbed it LC. The beauty of basing the Challenger off this platform is, Chrysler already had proven drivetrains and had already worked out most of the bugs by the time the LC's came around.

I think a redesigned Charger is coming out, yes?  :clueless:  I thought I saw some spy shots recently.

If that is the case, will the new Challenger continue on the same platform as the Charger or move to a dedicated platform, unique from the LX type cars?  :dunno:

i bet the challenger will go away in a few years.because it it about ten grand more then the camaro ss,and not many are being built and not many on the dealer lots.you see maybe 3 or 4 at the most, and most of the time they are 6 bangers on the lots .if you go buy a chevy dealer you see like 20 camaros out frount.i bet the challenger will be very rare in 20 years or less

The SRT's Challengers are the same price as the Camaro SS.  :clueless:
The Camaro's V6's kick out 100 more ponies than the Challenger V6's.  Consumer Guide also claims the Camero's are better built.

Is it really 100hp?  I thought the difference was like 50hp plus the fact that the Camaro V6 is lighter...  :dunno:

I would interpret that to mean that the Camaros aren't selling. Fewer cars on the lot means more sold. I see A LOT of new Challengers on the road in the Chicago area.

I have seen at least 20 challengers and have seen mayhap 2 clamaros.  At an south Everett Dodge dealer thay have at least six out front. Oak Harbor dodge has 10 to choose from. Every day on my way to the addition I am doing, I see a tor red R/T. At my local Quik-E-Mart (lol) This older fella comes almost every day to buy smokes in his silver R/T. When I bought my rear sway bar off of CL, the dude had a B5 R/T in the driveway.

I read something that said they were the highest in initial quality.

Does anybody really put any stock in "Consumer Guide" or any of the others?  Tell me what's there to prevent the people making these calls from getting greased by the car companies? Who has checked their band accounts and any money they have stashed away? Nobody. Not to say they are all crooks, but when it comes to selling cars I put nothing past certain companies that I've seen throw other companies under the bus to save their own skin with their bad products. Everybody knows who they are. A little 50K check is nothing if it sells 100 cars and gets them a glowing review. Drive it yourself and make your own call and use your own experience from owning thier other products. The jerk writing the review isn't putting out the $$ and they don't have to drive it and look at it for years.  :2cents:

i live by detroit and i see maybe a challenger once a week ,and i see a camaro at lest 2 to 3 time a day.but then again i do see a challenger every day mine lol.the challenger only lasted 4 years back in the 70s.i just dont think it will be around but for a few more years.i think it is a great car but it is also alot of money, and most of them are 6 bangers so people can afored one,in years to come nobodys going to want a 6 banger musel car.and the way the gas is its like 3 a gallon all most because you use the best grade gas.now they are trying to make alot of little cars that are good on gas and that are way cheaper.i think iit is sad but its true.and with all the info out ther the new camaro semes to be the better car,its lighter, cheaper, and faster, but as far aslooks goes the challenger has it beat all day.me i like the challenger thats why i bought one.but when they tested it aganst the mustang, and camaro it allways came in last and that is not good.there are alot of test  you can see on you tube and myspace some of them i thought wernt fair  but who am i to say.i think it is a great car and would buy it again over a mustang or camaro but that is just me
