Headlight switch
« on: December 16, 2009 - 02:32:08 AM »
??? Does anyone know how I can get ahold of a new headlight switch without paying through the nose? Or is that just part of owning one of these sexy cars? ... Or, is there a way I can get the existing one re-built / fit the current knob onto a modern switch?

I don't know who can help with your switch repair but they can be rebuilt, possibly somebody on this site can help.
When you re-install the switch make sure you install relays so that the main current flow goes through the relays and not the switch, it will last forever with full voltage at the headlights.

You could send a PM to member Slotts. He restores them.

Wow, thanks guys! I've got a wiring harness replacement project In the works for this year. I'm afraid to get into the dash portion, this thing is like any survivor. The harness front to back is hacked to hell. I'm a communications electrician in the Navy, so I'm prety good at fixing it the right way. Using solder and heat shrink tubing to make sure my connections are tight and waterproof. I just got done building a new harness plug for my voltage regulator. It turned out great and works well (I just can't get the car to start). I used some connectors from Radio Shack, RTV silicone and a lot of heat shrink. It was a very interesting project stemming from replacing the damaged alternator. I found many cracks in the 35 year old harness and several dead ends. I'm afraid to see what else I'll find when I open up the dash!

Thank you for the recommendation guys. I appreciate it.  :2thumbs:

Here was one that was DOA. Also, see that 20 amp breaker inside? That could trip with a short. If you ever saw your headlights pulsate, that's what was causing it.
