POWER STEERING BOX ADJUSTMENT (SLOP)
« on: December 19, 2009 - 05:08:47 PM »
Hello, I have just rebuilt the front end of my Challenger. I got the whole thing done got it aligned and realized that I had a good 2 inches of slop in the steering box. I had a member nice enought to let me have one of his power steering box's. Which is great i am going to take it either way as he was so nice to offer it to me.
But my question is, is there a way to tighten the power steering box up? The box in it, was rebuilt in the late 1990's and the car has had less then 5000 miles put on it since then without any real issues.
I was told there was a screw on the top that might aid in tightening it up but wanted to check with you guys before messing with anything.

Any help would be great!! THANKS!!

the screw on top can be adjusted to remove some play , it has to be adjusted with the wheels in the center / straight forward position , do not over tighten it or the wheels will not retun to center on their own , the lock nut is usually 5/8 with an allen screw in the center .
