Nice grab, are you gonna keep the origional colors? I Think cuda's and chally's are the only muscle cars that can make that green look good all the way through. Black steel wheels with the dog dishes would also make it rumble the eye sockets and give on-lookers whiplash!!


  Again nice find. I think my 2nd mopar down the road will def' be a chally 70 type.

1970 CHALLENGER PROJECT FINALLY

hey guys; i just looked at the date of my original post. it was almost 2 years ago since i started looking. i want drop in a 440 and maybe a 6 pack to top it off. hemi 4 speed or keisler 5 speed with a pistol grip shifter. maybe for paint,a vanishing point tribute,but the blackout on the hood and the horizontal side stripes would look great on a white car too. i don't know i'd be satisfied with an all white car. i also like plumb crazy and B-5 blue. i think the interior will be black. i agree that a 70 challenger looks good in ivy green with a green interior,but since it isnt a real numbers R/T,i would like to paint it another color. not a big fan of green,unless it is sublime.

i thought about a shaker hood too,but i don't like the shaker on a challenger as much as i do on the cudas.  there's just something about the R/T power bulge hood.

any of you guys done a one piece floor pan? does the trunk pan end before it rolls up to the latch? the pictures of the pan i saw on ebay look as if it ends before the roll up. in fact,i see a caulk seam in that area which makes me think there is a seam there.

The one piece trunk pan angles up and welds to the tail panel:





Edit: You'll have to use a 2 piece if you don't remove the tail panel for access, because of the size of the one piece.

A white challenger with black R/T stripes and hood blackout looks very nice!

thanks for the pics of the pan you did. nice work. let me ask you this....what if you drop the gas tank,rear end and leaf springs and bring the pan in from underneath? can you then clear the frame rails and get the one piece pan in there without removing the tail panel?

I'd suggest torque boxes and subframe connectors and 1" sway bars first off.

I asked the AMD rep at Carlisle about the one piece pan and they said they do it all the time without removing the tail panel. They cut a side off that hangs over the frame rail slide in in from the trunk then weld it back on, and since it's done over the frame rail no one will see it after you grind down the welds .

i've been a mopar guy at heart since i was a teenager watching the dukes of hazard. my favorite dream car has always been a 71 hemi cuda.

I really think the frame rails would be in the way to bring it in from below. There is a member here that kept his tail panel intact and removed the dutchman panel (it needed replaced anyway) and was able to slide the trunk pan in place. Another member made it in there with his trunk trunk lid drip rails out. And yet another member temporarily cut off a corner of the trunk pan and welded it back together in place.

No. I was able to re use my old  tank braces. Weld them to the pan before you install it in the car. I don't think the aftermarket tank braces are that expensive, but I think there have been issues here with them following the contour of the trunk pan closely.

The pan looks very good. I'll tell you right now, it isn't "exact" as far as the stamping is concerned. All the "correct" dimples and bends are there, but you have to make the pan fit correctly. 2/3rds of my car is aftermarket sheetmetal, and I've had to work to make everything fit. A little finesse and patience and everything turns out great.  :cheers:

how many spot welds to remove the tail panel,roughly ??? that sounds less invasive than removing the window to trunk filler panel. and my trunk drops are in great shape. i do not want to ruin those.

this idea sounds feasible as well.
