Winter Solstice is tomorrow
« on: December 20, 2009 - 09:02:34 PM »
Monday, 12/21 is the shortest day of the year. Of course they only begin to get longer again from there on.

So doesn't it make actual sense that New Years should be tomorrow instead of Jan 1st? Because the earths rotational cycle is completed on Dec 21st (or the 22nd once every 4 years) and not Jan. 1st.

A few thousand years ago, it probably was.

Gotta remember things have gotten a bit twisted through all the Roman and Judeo-Christian adaptions of observances through the centuries.

Sounds likely. Just goes to show how society is conformed by the beliefs of a certain few of a ruler or rulers over the centuries that dictate what we are to believe in.

Good or bad, we continue without even questioning. Even when there is protest among some.

The Mayans had the most accurate calender. It was ignored for the most part.

I am already ready for springtime.  I leave for work before light and get home after dark. It seems like I work all the time. It was 25* this am when I left the house.  Come on long days and warm weather.    :cooldancing:

Yeah, the kids wanted to go to college and they sorta like eating. Plus the cuda demands a lot of fuel, so off to work I went...    :smilielol:    :smilielol:

Yeah I enjoyed the 2 extra minutes longer day today.  :lol2: It looked like the sun was beginning to go down by 3.
