Your Opinion of Cop Car Rallye Wheels
« on: December 23, 2009 - 12:38:06 AM »
I've been toying with the idea of going with a more traditional-style wheel on my Cuda. I have a set of 18" Boss rims that I originally planned on using, but I've always had an affinity for the cop car rallye wheels. With the correct stance and the right tires, I think they can make the car look extremely aggressive. What do you all think? What's your preference?

Here's a picture of my car with the wheels I purchased:

And here's a picture of another 71 with the rims I'm considering:

MAN!!!

I gotta go sand blast my Cop wheels and put them on!!  that looks awesome  :grinyes:

On the other hand the black '71 might be that low just for the picture.  It doesn't look to me you could actually turn the steering wheel one way or another does it?

The problem with cop car wheels is that they are really heavy.  They are like the truck rims, the steel used is much thicker, making them stronger but heavier.

The goal never changes - Stop the 60' timer with your back tires

The black '71 in the pic does appear to sit pretty low, but my car has 2" dropped spindles on the front and 2" lowering blocks out back. I think it has a similar stance right now, and I don't have any clearance issues -- I think the stance is going to be an important part of the look.

I dug into my old photos -- found a picture of my previous 71 Cuda. It was lowered much more than I had remembered. I didn't have any clearance or turning issues with it lowered this much. I even had the cop car rallyes on it!!!

I like Cop wheels better on B-bodies, but I still like them overall. You can mount a variety of centers on them including those from late 70's Magnums, Super Coupes and even some AMC centers will fit.

My name is Steve and I'm addicted to Challengers...

I have been considering them as well for my Duster.15x8 15x10. Black with white letter tires are my favorite. They are cost effective and look tuff. As do the Bassett racing wheels. We might run them on the Charger. But bro says mag. 500's now. I don't see nearly as many around. Not sure on where to get good center caps. Got to be a glow in the dark '71 'cuda w/ cops on it out there...   :clueless:

I wasn't sure they would look good on a green car until I found this pic. Now I think it looks amazing.

I can certainly respect that comment. I find that there is a lot of LOVE/HATE when it comes to these wheels.

I was thinking, though, that I may be able to use these wheels with a certain twist. I discovered Stockton has 16" Cop Car Rallyes offered at varying widths. Rather than go with the standard 15x7 wheels, I figured I could buy 16x10s for the rear and 16x8s for the front. This way I could get wider tires than normal all the way around. With the slightly larger rim and the low stance of the car, I'm thinking the Cuda will have a more aggressive, modern look while keeping an overall nostalgic appearance. It will be something rather subtle -- enough that people will be able to notice a difference but not necessarily be able to put their finger on just what that difference is. Am I way off-base with this line of thinking?
