Do you have A/C in it?  Did you pop the engine cover off in the cab area to verify the hose nipple location?

I have a 99 Chevy 3500 Van with the cutaway, it heats it well even with the cab door open to the back(12 box).

Tom

Also are the flapper doors opening all the way?

If I don't have it revved up & get into any heavy grass it dies. 4-stoke I've cleaned the foam filter & shook out the paper filter which was new a couple of years ago (I've tested with the filter off & don't notice any difference).... The only way I can get it to stay running it will keeps getting faster if no load but with a little extra load it bogs way down. Adjusted the screws every which way, the only thing I have not tinkered with is the float height & I don't know how to go about that or if it's even relevant. Being 17 years old it probably needs a carb rebuild. Not hard to start but the throttle has to be pushed full on to starting to engaging the choke to stay running. I've tried adjusting the cable where the choke goes off sooner.  Does not smoke or use oil, has been a great piece that I wish I could get a new one just like it...but I understand they no longer make them ...

I know this sounds crazy but how is the blade?  Being 17 years old...If it's REALLY worn down and missing the "wing" part at the backside of the blade AND not sharp it will give you grief. The engine needs the weight of the blade to carry it over to the next firing( heavier the better) , and if the blade is not sharp it makes the engine use up power to get through the grass. Being 17 years old I'm guessing the engine is tired and lacks compression. To get the jets back to the correct spot screw them all the way in , then back them out 1 1/4 turns then adjust from there. If it has 2 screws ,One screw will just be the idle the other the secondary. Some  engines have a spring attached to a metal strip and governor and you mend this slightly to raise the RPM .
Hope that helps some?

Hi Tom!
No A/C I can see the nipple is in the intake buy lifting the hood. Mine is a conversion van( I can stand up in it) that is open all the way to the back , so it's a lot of area to heat up. Good point on the flapper doors under the dash I'll have to check. When I first got it, the cable came off the selector lever ( hot to cold) on the dash I took it all apart and put it back on. Maybe I missed something? :dunno:

Also are the flapper doors opening all the way?

I remember the conversion van from Carlisle!

Hope you get it sorted.  Maybe a couple raps with a bar will loosen the check valve?

Brad is there air in the system?  Did you just change something that could be the problem.

:iagree:  426 has a point. It has happened to me before.Big air pocket in the heater core that won't let the water circulate thru it.
