Speedo trouble
« on: December 23, 2009 - 11:16:09 AM »
Just wondered if I did something wrong.
I just installed a new gauge panel and noticed that when I go faster then 70 my speedo tends to go a little crazy. Anyone tell me why it might be doing this. Once I drop below 70 the speedo smooths out and seems to be pretty right on. Is the cable loose? What might cause this?  :eek4:

Could be the guage sticking or the cable could be binding , you can remove the inner drive cable & coat it with lubriplate / white lithium grease

sounds like a plan I will try that. Because I just changed it and the last one didn't do it. I was worried it was a bad speedo.

I agree with Neil.  Even better, take the cable completely out, spray some lithium grease into the cable housing and chuck the cable into a drill.  Run the drill slowly so that the cable will actually pull the grease all the way through it.  You must run the drill in the proper direction depeding on which end you connect to.  The cable is wrapped so it will act like a screw with threads.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

When yours goes crazy at 70, does it make a loud whirring noise too?

I have the same symptoms you have plus that noise.....

the noise is Usually in the cable but can be in th eguage as well , try lubing the cable first
