Pushrod/Rocker arm Question
« on: December 24, 2009 - 07:06:10 PM »
Howdy everyone, its been a long time since I've been on here I am pleased to be back.  I graduated from UC Davis in June and the Police Academy 2 wks ago, so now I finally have time to finish what I started. This leads me to my question.  1) What should I torque my rocker arm bolts down to? and 2) should I use assembly lube or just normal oil on the new push rods?  Thanks in advance.  Merry Christmas everyone.

200 in/lbs small block, 25 ft/lbs big block.  You don't want to over do it because you will crush the rocker shafts.

The goal never changes - Stop the 60' timer with your back tires

Do not ever overtorque the rocker shafts , I saw an engine 2 years ago at one of the machinists I use , they were being asked to warranty the engine & wanted my opinion on it , the shaft was crushed oval , he 2 rockers on each side were discolored from heat & had welded to the shaft , the piston had exploded from hitting  against the stuck open valve , the only savable part was the heads , possibly just one head !
the machine shop had not installed the rockers so no warranty
