Why is it so hard to find a gasket for this?
« on: December 25, 2009 - 07:56:57 AM »
I had two auto parts stores order a gasket for this, they both got the same under sized rubber ring. I told them it was for a 72, 340......The Fel Pro package said 68 - 85 V8.
I'm about ready to make my own, but I couldn't get a gasket material that's thick enough. One guy tried to talk me into cork, but I thought that would not hold up.
  Any ideas???
THANK YOU &
MERRY CHRISTMAS ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Was the part number 70522? That is what I came up with on Felpro site for oil filter adapter.

72rtchallenger,
THANK YOU very much for the offer, but that's not the one I need.

The one you showed on ebay is what I need.

I'm glad I came here to ask the question, it looks like there are small gaskets that go in the center. I over looked the little center gaskets. THANKS!!!!!!

Bullitt,
I do not have the angle adapter. I'm not sure if I could even get one in there with the Hooker headers. There's room to get the short fat oil filter in there, I can remove/install it from up top only.

THANK YOU for the help Gentlemen!!!!!
I hope everyone had a GREAT Christmas ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

The plate/adapter off my 340 was pulled down so far it would take 2 or 3 gaskets to get a seal. I was going to beat it back to it's original form, but I took the one off my 318 instead. It was in great shape.
I checked to make sure there was room for the threaded nut to pull it down and I used some stuff called YAMABOND on both sides of the gasket.
This stuff is a great sealer, I used it on the tranny cases on my motorcycle (Honda VTX, 1800cc V Twin), these cases are machined so well that they do not use a gasket, just a sealer like this is used. I have no leaks and I use a synthetic oil.
