Any Ragtops In 1973?

I found this picture on "Flickr" and the person mentioned it was the only one made in 1973.
Is this true or is he full of liquor!

It is not a '73, it is a '71.
Several '71 Challenger convertibles were converted by Chrysler to look like '72's for use on some TV shows like Mod Squad.  Note in the picture you can see the '70-'71 side marker bezels.
There were also some '71 Barracuda convertibles made up to look like '72's for Mannix and the Brady Bunch.
That car in the picture or its twin has been listed on ebay a few times over the last year.

'71 convertible modified with '72 Grille and taillights by Chrysler to supply to the TV studio.
Check the photo album of pictures of this car, there is even one of the fender tag showing it as JH27H1B.

Thanks for the confirmation about it's origin.
I thought it must be some kind of half-breed.
Looks like they did a nice job.

They did a great job on that car.  I have seen it at several shows and it is a very well restored car.  The owner is very familiar with its origins and does not try to pass it off as a true 72 convertible.

to my knowledge 100% of the 72 -73 E body ragtops were equipped with the Hemi 6 pack 









also to my knowledge there are exactly 0 72-73 ragtop E bodies built

I had 1 of those Hemi 6-packs, but it also had a factory 6-speed.  I think it was a proto-type for the Viper?

Well.......maybe.  Someone from here on c-c.com posted this question on Moparts last week and one member there, a credible, knowledgeable long time poster there, replied that he looked at a Challenger convertible for sale in the northeast around 20 years ago, a '72 with '72 sheetmetal.  The Vin was JH27G2B100---.  He didn't note the full Vin, but said he passed on it because he thought it was overpriced at the time for a 318 car.
With that VIN, he speculated it was a pilot car, and that maybe they made a few before deciding not to do a convertible in '72.
If true, that would be pretty exciting if it surfaces again someday.  I wonder if that car is still out there somewhere?
