Did you know that an engine with a hemi pan
« on: December 30, 2009 - 07:23:24 PM »
Will not fit in a 70 fury :banghead:

Short version.........................

Got a 70 fury wagon, been setting for over 25 yrs in a junk yard. Towed it to the house. Pulled out a 383 that was locked up, full of dirt and grease . Put my engine on the puller and the pan hit the frame member. Wasted 2 days. So a e body b body hemi/6pk pan will not fit a c body in 1970 and my 499 isnt running now for break in

Yeah, I did get the 383 stripped down and in the back of my truck to take to the machine shop tonight. I will pull the trans tomorrow and then get that 25 ft long rust bucket out of my shop. It's a mess in there now. But I do get to build another engine for a road runner now :2thumbs:

It has been a quest to start this 499 tho

you get the joy of concieving another moparal speed and equipment mill, another project( cause you have way to much time on your hands as it is) and you now know how to fit a boat in your shop for next time!!

all in all, id say you had a very enlightening and rewarding experiance.

As a matter of fact yes it would :2thumbs:  But I was not going to take all the break in lube out of the engine pan, ruin gaskets and everything else involved just to start a new sealed engine up for 20 minutes. No way. The fury sat in a junk yard under trees for decades. It was a total mess. I would rather start it on the floor and let it hop around first. :smilielol:

Looks like Furys make a good place to keep your spare e-body

Alan, as this may come up a few more times why not build a test stand for break-in etc.?   Wouldn't take a rocket scientist to make something like this..

I new the 70 fury could be bought/ordered with a 440-6 in it. So I didnt consider that mopar put a different pan on them when they did.

Wade, where did you see that stand in the picture?  Was it cheaper than 850 bucks?

Hey Alan, i see a spot on that engine start stand you can fix a Fury emblem too if you are uncomfortable with the brand  :dunno:

:poopoke: And you deffinetly would have to paint Hemi Orange and nt leave it that  :puke: Ford Blue :misbehaving:

We started an engine on a cheap 3-wheel engine stand years ago. Suprisingly it didnt shake as much as you might think.
