GRRRRRRRRRR! Freaking front valance
« on: January 01, 2010 - 04:59:02 PM »
Not much i guess anyone can do about it but I have to vent.  LOL :banghead:

When I first got my car I found that the shop who did the body/paint work had messed up in how they repaired the front valance.....the lower grill/light assembly wouldn't fit.

Well, I did some quick tweaking and some bondo work to fix the cracks in the bondo and paint I created and got it to fit...but afterwards found that the passenger side  "light" is crooked. Seen here....note the area that I think was hit is in grey primer that I used.

The main goal was to get the car on the road so I put that on my "to do list".  But it bothered me every time I saw it.

Decided to look at it again since winter is here.....

I think the whole valance was seriously tweaked.....I just spent the last couple hours trying to tweak and bend and massage things into alignment but its not happening.

The lower grill assembly clips onto the balance edge and follows that plane....the valance has a bunch of bondo on it.....found that when I tweaked it enough last time to get the lower grill to fit....

I guess the fastest  fix is going to be to scrap this valance and buy a new repro one.....IF I want it perfect I mean.

Or I can try and bend this one but I fear it was so tweaked before (I think it was hit) it may be a huge waste of time.....

On one hand the valance "works" aside from it being out of whack enough to affect the lower grill.....and hate to spend $250 or $300....but it really bugs me...LOL

Grrrrrrrrrr...........I had to walk away from it for today. :pullinghair:

How good quality are the AMD and Goodmark repro valances?

If the gray primer wasn't there, I could live with it. A few short cuts were taken on my car too.   :pullinghair:

Most of us have this problem in some way, so don't let it get you down.

I've seen many with valance lights that aren't perfectly straight and most folks don't notice it. Check the pics in this thread. No offense, miketyler!

No offense, miketyler!

None taken  :lol2:

I too have wondered about this as my lower valance is in perfect shape and the plastic insert is like new. Cant figure out what causes the cock-eyed parking/turn lights. It's a common issue though, I have seen several like that; few that are dead straight and level. Am tempted to cut one of the posts, reposition, and remount it.
