Well, the redness of the valance is no longer....









I stripped the "front" (exposed side) and left the other side red but scuffed/sanded real well.

I am debating whether to use the spray bombs I have (left from my trunk repaint) and paint it myself or to buy more paint and take it to a buddy who can paint.....

I know you didn't ask but if your looking to get rid of the primer on the lower grille the "Krylon graphite textured shimmer" looks pretty good.  Sort of comes out like a dark argent silver.  I got mine at Ace.

I might try the black textured shimmer on a tail panel some day. Just too cool looking IMO

I bought the lower grill insert new and it came that color grey....I was wondering what colr it SHOULD be!   

Any chance you have a picture of this color on it?

Here is a broken piece I experimented with a couple of years ago.

You can see the original Argent silver on most of the piece but you can tell where I painted just the corners to see if the colors match.  It's really close but not spot on.  The other problem was I got a little close to the part with the spray can.  Holding the can farther back really helps bring out the sparkle.

Also the pic shows the bright red behind the chrome.  That is the stock insert color on all '72 to '74 grilles and it looks great when restored.   IMO

I was wondering if I can use that same paint to repaint my grill?

Right now, it is a textured sort of flat black....The blacked out look is OK, and goes with the stripe, but I think I would like my grill to look a little more...well...original....

The Krylon will be close, but the best rattle can paint I found comes from Totally Auto Inc.

In the first pic "gr2" Most of the grille piece is the original color but the bottom left hand corner is the   (Krylon graphite textured shimmer)  Krylon part number 2521.  You can see the line in between where I shot the paint shows a little lighter.

The second pic shows the same thing. Lower right is the krylon paint and the rest of the part is the original color.   Not a bad match for less then $6 a can and no freight needed.

  They make a lighter version as shown in my Krylon link.  I shot a couple of rallye wheels with that color  and they looked great .

I want to try that Black version on something too.

My paint tests showed none of the paint was a perfect match. The pics don't show the quality of the paint,they just show how the color test compaired to an original grille.

In my opinion the Totally Auto paint just looked soooo much better.

I used the Totally Auto stuff too on my grille when I restored it. I noticed a lot of sparklies in the overspray. They put some serious metallic particles in that product.

Nice effort Dave!!  So "D" is the stuff?   Looks great.

Here are the pics of my grille with the Fusion graphite paint.   It came out pretty good for $6 but not exact. It does really sparkle in the sunlight though.

Thanks for the link!   They have the 'textured argent in a can".....is that what I want?

Question though -- my grill is already textured with blck flat on it.....will this end up being TOO MUCH textyre if i use this stuff on it?  For my lower grill i am sure it will be great!

Think one can will do upper and lower grill pieces?
