Yellow headlights - why?
« on: January 02, 2010 - 08:52:48 PM »
I guess I'm starting to suffer from my mind wandering, but...    :screwy:

For whatever reason I was thinking about the Challenger's 4 headlights, and how I have seen in the past and the one that stands out in my mind is a poster with a Challenger next to a VW I believe with it's highbeam lights "yellowed".

So I decided to google yellow headlights, and was reading how some feel they offer a better "viewing" in bad weather situations.

So, not to sound silly but, did people run them because they feel they have superior lighting or did some run them just because they were different?

Style mostly. They do reduce some glare.     Looks cool with the centers done. :2cents: I'd like those blue H4 ones...  Or somethin like Conv340 did.  Maybe red halos... :blah:   Then little l.e.d's all over.  ::)

The ambers are fog lights. I ran them in my T/A, but I live on an island as well.

Even on non-foggy nights, I preferred them over normal high beams. Hard to explain, the actual road appeared 'blacker' yet any debris in the road or near the ditch, animals etc.  was easier to spot as a result.

I cut that add of a challenger next to the VW from some long forgotten mag. years ago. Thought it was pretty cool so I taped it to the front of a cabinet in my garage. I think I will make a diorama of this scene in the future.

I have a pair of shooters glasses that are yellow. I will say they do "brighten" things up without glare when worn at night. Same principal maybe??  :clueless:

There it is! I've been looking for that picture for years. I saw that pic in a magazine when I was a kid and thought it was the coolest picture ever. I've always remembered it but never had a clue where to find it again.

Clear=driving lights,yellow =fog lights.
Drag racers used to tint thier headlights so when they were coming down an unlit return road it would lesson the distraction to the other racers coming down the track.

 Dave I got mine here.

Here is the back wiring connections

I had to make an" adapter" to plug into the stock socket.

With this lamp I had to carefully make this slot in the bucket to locate the square notch on the lamp.

Why do I have them? It's just a style thing with me. When I was a kid in the 70's I remember seeing the bad/fast Mopar cars with them. I remember a very sinister looking/sounding black 70 GTX  having them . My first Challenger I bought had them when I bought it.  :smilielol: Although mine wasn't fast! I just like the look? I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea though.I can always go back to clear if I get sick of it.

If you guys have trouble finding yellow lights, it could be worth asking our French members for help.  It`s only been for a few years now the French are allowed to use white lights on their cars... they had to be yellow before on all vehicles.

thanks Brad you da man  , just a thought why didnt you just resolder a set of lugs to the new lamps from the old set. I have small aviation landing lamps in my chall. they had the screw lugs like that, it was easy to do. thanks for the info.
