Haven't done a lot with the car in a few weeks, finishing up some of those house projects, did manage to clean up that rear bumper reinforcement some in case I decide to use the 74 bumper for now, stripped the rear valance off the 74. that was full of bondo, played with the hammer & dolly a while, amazing how beat up some of these parts are. Anyway, I alive & kickin & hopin for some warm weather to get a few more little things done! Rich.

First time she's been out in the rain, at least it washed off a couple of months of dust.
So today I managed to get the front & rear glass trim off without doing any more damage, preping for the return of the glass guy(I Hope) .
But this is me & no day goes by on the car latley that something doesn't go wrong, went to clean the threads out for the mirrors & got the tap stuck, the ?nutsert? started spinning, what do I do now??????????? Rich.

you'll have to reach your hand inside with a pair of needle nose vise grips, mine does the same. PS- they are not welded in, the squeeze into the door like a rivet. its a tight fit but i think the vise grips are your only bet. lookin good!

No miracle cures, to get anything in there i'll have to pull the door glass which we just spent countless hours aligning! I have all new hardware if needed , is there a way to get the old nut out without ruining the hole?
I know I could drill it like a rivit but with the tap in there I'm kinda screwed? Rich.

Rich, I think thats the easy hole to get at I believe. The other one is behind the slide. You can use some long nose needle pliers to hold on to it. You can even stick them through the hole or a bent small wrench and just hold steady pressure on it and back it out slowly. The threads you were tapping out dont go all the wall through. DID you know that?

I'll give it another shot tomorrow, with the glass up it still looked like a long reach, I'll try & wiggle my arm up there & see what happens,
Al, No I did not know that, will inspect the new nuts tomorrow also! Thanks,Rich.

OK, got the vise grips in was not that bad, other one cleaned up & stayed tight. I have a manuel setup to tighten em but could not contort enough to get the washer & nut on the stud(used to pull it up) anyway i have a friend with the tool, will have to wait & borrow it, need to set in 2 on the passenger side anyway they had an aftermarket mirror over there.
Al checked out those threads there all the way at the bottom but the first 1/4" or so has none!  :2thumbs: Rich.

Here's my other dumb secrete to the nut and washer. SHHHHH   I put a dab of silocone on the end of my finger with the washer and nut. Let it dry a bit, stuck my finger in the hole and threaded the screw in it.  Dumb huh? My door was together to.  What a pain but it worked

Glad to see you are getting so close Rich! Where did you get the tool to tighten the mirror rivets? I have to do all 4 on my car and although I have new nuts/rivets, I do not have the tool. I was told to set them with a bolt and nut but I want to do it right the first time. I cant wait till you get to cruise that thing Rich. I remember reading your thread first over at moparnuts when I joined a few years ago now. Good luck, I hope the rest of the assembly goes smooth  :2thumbs:

The tool is an allen head threaded bolt that goes through the insert, then you put a washer and nut on the back of the insert, pull it down useing a hand allen wrench to crimp it in, unscrew the assembly, and re use the tool for all 4 inserts. A guy on ebay sells the kit with or without the inserts. You want me to find a link gor you?

Cool. Thanks Al. I will do a quick search and see what pops up. I still got plenty of time as my car is still on its first block sanding

 Looks like you're doing well at this point Rusty, you're on another first, block sanding, you've had a few repeats on this project and I'm glad to see you getting to this stage. All this progress is getting me pumped up to go out and work on mine.
