Got some time in today, still no turn of the key, seems to be going in SLOooooooooooooow motion. everything I try & get done requires 3 or 4 other things to do first!  :bricks1:
I guess I'll start with the plug wires, long story but I may need help??
Turned the eng till I got compression on #1. put in the distributor & pointed the rotor at 1, put the cap on(wires were never off the cap) & the lengths were all wrong, even tried turning it 180* but that looked worse, so I followed the diagram & had to move 4 wires to different posts on the cap, redid the right bank to better match the length of the wires, the left bank I just ran to the right # plug & below is the mess I ended up with, need new wires anyway so I'll go nuts if & when it runs!  This car did run when I got it!
I used left bank 1 3 5 7 front to rear & right bank 2 4 6 8 again front to rear ?

On the good side the fuel line is done, the vapor line done up to where the canister will someday be! Had to make my own clamps, fuel I can live with the vapor line one I have to come up with something better.

I managed to get the throttle cable & the speedo cable in,while I was under there I figgered I better do the heater cables, too much stuff getting in the way, set the foot pump for the washers & then moved back to the bay, got the carb on & hooked up the ? linkage? (home made will ask about that over in tech) still have a few wires dangling in the bay I have to trace but its looking more complete by the day!
Stuck the old dirty rusty air cleaner on to keep the crap outta the carb!

Now I'm getting pretty tired of standing on a bucket to reach anything in the bay so I decided to bring her down to mother earth!

Gotta put some more tension on the tortion bars, then hopefully it will be about where it should, glad I didn't align anything, it all moved ALOT ! doors dropped in the rear, hood bound up on the hinges a bit!
So there's the good side, well I didn't sand it yet(one coat clear with some flaws) & the sanded side!

Maybe two more car days, sunday I have to put it all away & get the shop back in work mode.
Closer than before, but still not sure I'll get to try to start it this weekend, keep finding more stuff that needs done first! :clueless:
But I may have a new favorite pic here, almost looks like a car again, this one looks mean! :naughty: Rich.

:iagree: Looks like it's just waiting to launch, hope you get it soon but need to be sure and go through a check list of things to verify you have everything ready. Oil in, filter tight, engine coolant full, tranny fluid in and fittings double checked, PS fluid, belts tight, fuel lines tight (that one could save you from burning down your project you've worked so hard on), a second person is always good so you can have a spotter in case you need to shut her down quickly, park brake on, tranny in park, etc. I don't remember if you put in a new cam but you will need to break it in so don't let it sit and idle too long once you get it running, gotta keep about 2500 rpms for about 15-20 minutes to get er done. If you need to shut her down you can if you find a problem but once you get it taken care of, finish your cam break in. You know all of this but just thinking of things that can go very wrong on the first start up. Good luck Rich, hope it sounds as sweet as you expect. We'll be anxiously waiting.  :2thumbs:

Thanks glen, gonna shorten your list a bit, no hoses for power steering so I left the belt off, double checked all lines, but a close eye will be on em, Got absolutly no brakes at all, but she'll be in park with the wheels chocked. engine is as I got it, just a tad cleaner, was supposed to have been rebuild "shortly" before i bought it (but it sat for a long time, so I'm on a wing & a prayer with that)
Gotta see how today goes, it's gettin closer, but being new at this I'm not sure whats in store for me! Later,Rich.

Well not even a sputter............... but as I was just getting my sob story started over at scat the big  :dupe:  :clueless: DOH hit me, the neutral safty harness is just hanging under the car, was gonna reroute it & got involved in something else & totally forgot about it! Gettin older is a b........ !
So, I had to put in the aftermarket guages cause all the sensors were set up for them, did the heater hoses, spliced out the main yellow wire off the column because it went thru an alarm switch , so thats direct now(thought that might have been the problem) anyway, put in oil, tranny fluid, antifreeze & about 5 gal of gas. Stole the battery out of the 74 turned the key & nothing, a little sparky type sound at the starter realy, had the new one so I put that in, still nothin, but no sparky(sizzle)  type sound, dug out an old jumper button & hooked that up to the relay, she turns!!!!!!!  K so I pull all the plugs & try & blow out the excess oil I was pouring down the plug holes over the last few years, got some out, but still see liquid in there, she's gonna smoke like a bandit if it ever starts!
Tomorrow I have to clean up the mess I made in the shop this week on the car & get it back to work mode, I will do that first & if I have anything left maybe give it another try AFTER I put that connector on the trans! ::)
Not sure I like what I heard when she was spinning, seemed a little slow & a deep thumpin sound I think at the back of the motor, this motor did run with no bad noises before I took the car apart!
Oh yea, I checked the plug wires in the other car & they match what I did with the chart, so hopefully they & the distributor are in right!
Any tips here would be great, I have many wires just hangin , think I got all the igi & bay wires on, any others that must be hooked up before she'll run & also will the fuel pump prime itself & if so about how long till I see press at the carb? any other tips, no matter how obvious would be appreciated, this is a first for me & I don't wanna miss anything. Thanks,Rich.

There be life of a sort in the beast!  :o
Got that switch on after much contortioning of my hand & finger joints, actually didn't happen till I jacked up the car a bit, while it was up I cranked up on the t  bar adjusters , still seems a bit low, hope he didn't have slant six bars in there?
Anyway, she cranks from the key now,I took the line off the fuel filter & poured some gas down to the pump & lifted the line & put some in the carb lines, put a tad in the carb, after 3 of those short bursts she ran from the lines! :bananasmi ...........but it sounded like a barrel of rotating bricks  :faint:
So I redid the firing order, now I'd swear it was pointing straight left, which moves it over 1 post from yesterdays set up, moved em & attempted startup, barley a sputter, moved the timing too & fro all to no avail, now i've run the battery down so I get out the charger, while hangin out I put in a few floor pan plugs & stretched out some more wiring.
Decided to put the wires back where they were after setting #1 again, looks like it's pointing right BETWEEN the 2 posts. Now it fires right up, the barrel O crap noise is gone & the destruction has moved to the valve train area, noticed if I bring up the revs a bit it smooths out, not tapping sounds, just choas!
Anyway decide to get it warm enough to check the thermostat, got the cap off , check the guage, temp is comming up, go back out & flow I did get! boy did I get it! :bricks1: bout a quarts worth all over my nice clean bay! Did this(starting with cold eng) many times before & you'd just see it start to circulate in the top of the rad, never overflowed like that on me! >:(
Got mr340 on the line & he thinks maybe just timing, I hope so.  Anyway bout this time my son comes out to see what all the smoke & noise are about & asks what time are we leaving? I'm like leaving for what........... Him..... Moms birthday dinner! :eek4: Well the mad rush is now on to clean up out there & get myself cleaned up, so the timing will have to wait! Got some work booked for a few days so at least wed pm or thurs.
On the home front the dinner went well(& on time) Narrowly avoiding the wraith :nono: but all is well on the home front!
OH YEA, she sure did sound sweet when the revs were up a tad through the half open headers! :woohoo: Rich.

let it run for about a half hour today, still sounds bad, gonna get some help here with experiance before I tear into anything, got a leak in the rad, not pinpointed yet, but she heated up to 190 & stayed there.
Messed with the tail panel , got it black, but messed up around the lights a little(you'd think I'd learn by now not to shoot all the angles at once :banghead: if the rain holds off I might sand out the drips & clear it today!  :dunno: Rich.

She's Alive!!  That's very exciting Rich.  I'm sure you'll get the timing stuff figured out. Ours didn't sound very pretty when we started it up for the first time, but we were just so dang excited it actually started we didn't care!
