apply hood blackout

Hi,
I'm going to apply the reproduction blackout, flat black on the hood of my Challenger.  I would like to know what is the best procedure to follow when applying stripes or wide decals.  There is some special product to avoid air bubbles and facilitate the applying process ?

Someone said me to throw on the hood some dish soap....

I believe its one teaspoon of dish soap to one gallon of water but im not sure,some one can correct me if im wrong,but i think thats the mix.

That is correct. For some reason they say to use Dawn diswashing soap too. Generously apply the soapy water to both the hood and the back of the stripe. It's scary, but you will have a few minutes to get it into place before it starts to dry.

Just to add...That is a big piece of vinyl, so an extra set of hands is a must. Trim as much excess paper from the outside as you can. Then lay it out, and put masking tape along different points on the hood to give you guidance when you do it for real. You have a squeegy, right?

This hood will be done off the car, yes we will use  soap and water to apply it.
The decal is on order and when it gets here I'll post from start to finish.

  Also be careful that you don't stretch or distort the vinyl and do it in the shade. I haven't done one but everybody who I know that has done one stresses these warnings.

Ok....here is where I show my ignorance...LOL

The blackout hoods were decals?  I always assumed they were painted!

Did they do cudas with the decal too?

Can the decal be removed if you decide you hate it?

I have a plain jane hood and was considering shooting it flat black but then to go back a repaint would be in order for sure....(I am sure I would love it but the  wife has doubts so having a bailout plan would be a good idea...LOL)

  Taking off the vinyl usually takes off paint as well and if it is on for awhile the paint will fade compared to what is covered.   
  If unsure stick a bit of black paper on and stand back and have a look or there are some water soluble paints at craft stores which might wash off if you are not sure.

Where do folks get the decals?

I am holding off on doing anything because I really want a hood with a scoop or scoops....My wife prefers the flat hood, but the kid on me wants a scooped hood, blacked out and a black go wing.  LOL
