Do you work outside?
« on: January 05, 2010 - 06:11:28 PM »
Im cold, it has been 14, 17 , 22 degrees here in the mornings.  With the wind blowing it feels a lot colder. Cuts right through this ole man.  This unit im working on is in the open and on a hill. While only taking a 30 minute break a day, Im chilled to the bone

Who else works outside all day?

Depends on the project, but never the less the cold is  :eek4:.  I have a nice Dickies Jumpsuit for the real cold days.

I'm somewhat busy these days with snowblower repairs.I just started this business last summer after getting sick of being laid off. Anything above -15 is OK, below that and it gets to me! I do dress for the weather.  Looking forward to lawn mower/tractor repairs though!

I guess I got to put some lotion on or something. My hands and legs are cracking and bleeding in spots. I hate to use lotion tho. I need thick skin when im in 200 to 1000 degree areas. It's always one extreme to another. I got all the carhart cover alls and stuff, but if your feet and ears are cold, the rest of the body stays cold, and I cant wear heavy gloves. I work around extreme pinch points.  Love my job, just hate the cold.  With arthirtus it just plain sucks :wave:, but bills are paid, and I have a job and im sure many wish they were lucky enough to even have a job. So my only complain is....Im cold. :roflsmiley:

I`ve been working indoors for the past 10 years, but before that I was shoeing horses for a living and mostly outdoors...  used to heat up the tools a little in the forge before starting work...

Oh yeah, that looks warm. Better than standing on a 1.5 ft by 3 ft area up in the air all day.  If I could move around some, it wouldnt be so bad.

yep, thats warm... burning steel is no problem.... also the wrestling with subborn horses keeps you warm, but it`s killing in summerheat... wooden shoes are great for cold feet & protection too...  :2thumbs:

I work out in the cold all the time. Three tips;

1. Dress in layers.

2. Cotton socks first, then wool socks.

3. Think of nice boobies.

That works for me.

If it gets so cold that #3 is no longer effective, it is time to go inside.  :2cents:

Layers are good, no gloves here either since most of the time the wires are small and need full attention.  I tell you, sometimes inside New Construction Jobs it is much colder inside. :wave:

I use Aquaphor for my hands, it works well and isn't greasy, plus the misses appreciated the soft hands.. :bigshades:
