wheelhouse fit
« on: January 05, 2010 - 08:23:17 PM »
So, I go and try to mock up my new outer wheelhouses and as you can see in the pictures, they dont fit worth a crap. Am I doing something wrong or is this what I have to work with? I'm not a body man but this seems way out of line. Wassup?

There is a picture of each side. Shot is taken level with the lower lip. So yeah, its too long. The seam between the two wheelhouses is flush with each other. I guess it must be broke HAHA. I got my parts from Dave@ roseville, not that I think thats the problem.

even if they are  Goodmark, there is no way the parts can be that bad,can you snap a pic of the front?are you doing this with quarters on?

The quarters are still on, just notched so I can see. I will put the new ones on after I get some of this other new metal lined up and screwed in place. Pics are not so good but you can see that I have the front edge in all the way.

Oh. no pic but even the contour at the lower lip of the wheel house seems all out of whack.  Should I just snip and use a BFH?

what i would do is cleco the new quarter on and see how the fit is, im betting you can still manipulate the wheelhouse to fit better.
i would never just do the wheelhouse without the quarter at least having been placed for fitment.
sound silly?
try it.

:iagree:  You are both right. My intentions were not to permanently attach the wheelhouses yet, but I needed some sort of reference for attaching the trunkpan and dropoff's. I just got off the phone with Dan  "DMZ73" and he said that lower lip gets trimmed off when everything is lined up.  I'm feelin better about this already.
By the way, it seems that I have 1 AMD and 1 Goodmark wheelhouse. Go figure.

Andy,
no worries. It looks like it's just down standing flange that gets dollies and trimmed after the trunk filler panel gets installed.
If it fits well everywhere else, secure with screws, then remove the rest of your remaining q-panel. Before you remove the q-panel, make sue to measure the window opening.
Test fit the new q panel mating to the wheelhouse and b-post (door latch) and rocker.
Don't forget to check your fit with the trunk filler panel secured in.

Once you do it on one side, it will go twice as quick.
Best,
dan
