I am not sure I have a pic of my Triple Black 70 Challenger or not now I will look to see if I can find one with the original color coded piece on the front.  I owned one of them that had the black piece that was steel on it.  So I am not wrong on that.  It was according to options on the 1970.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Wrong and wrong. Asked and answered....bulge hood got them, flat hoods did not.

Show me a "non chrome" front hood molding on a 70.

 :iagree: X3  :dogpile:

That photo is not correct; 70’s with that hood all had the letters, that’s a 71 decal placed too low as a matter of fact.

And all hood trim in 70 was chrome!
Never made black hood trim on a 70!  :nono:

And I have never seen anything but chrome trim on fender and hood mldngs for 1970. 72-74 cars were body color.

Well, he's got the wrong color on his grille and h/l bezels, too! He DOES have a Hemi!

Cool pic. Where'd you find it?

Just Googled it.

Was watching the show the other night and saw the car in the back ground.

I'd bet the only thing truly HEMI about that car are the engine call outs on the hood.

Since they require a specific hood,
I had a '74 parts challenger that had a flat hood with the letters (which is how I now have a set). Couldn't say if it was factory or not. Might have been?

Not to hijack my own post, but more on Gibbs' Challenger with the incorrect hood (and grille):

To further continue the hijack, I read that this is the same car that was used in "The Bucket List".

Back on topic...I believe all hoods got the letters starting in 72, when the Tri-star emblem went away on the flat hoods.

The hood I had on my Black 70 challenger had never been removed or anything.  I can not find a pic of it but it did for sure have a metal piece in the front.  I can get my friends and son and a lot of poeple to back me on this.  I changed it out to be chrome.

If you REALLY want to get picky, none of it is really just chrome. It's nickel-chrome, or copper-nickel-chrome, depending on the substrate.

Chrome has pretty much become the catch-all term for all bright work. I worked in the automotive trim industry for years and gave up on correcting people a long time ago.
