Well, spent this afternoon tearing out most of the old suspension stuff.

Still have to remove the torsion bars, lower control arm and uppercontrol arm/balljoint.

Not too bad.

I found that the steering box leak really made a mess of the drivers side under the car....so its coming out.

Looks like just tow big bolts?

It looks like I *might* be able to remove the steering box up thru the top IF I remove the battery and tray....????  Definately not looking doable from below, with my Dougs headers in place.....I reall dont want to pull the header if I don't have to.

Three big bolts. the third one is closer to the frame.

I tried with my Hookers, but had to drop the header after all.

Just an update....

Well, I got the steering box out today....I, too, had to pull the header (Dougs).

SOOOOO close....it looks like it will come right out.....but just not enough clearance.....  :swear: :pullinghair: :banghead:

To avoid also having to pull the starter too, I basically had to angle the header down at a 90 degree angle almost and THEN pull the box up through the top (I have the battery and tray out), THEN pull the header the rest of the way out thru the bottom.

I also already had the LCA out so that helped.

Came out ok...we''ll see if I remember how I did it for the reinstall weeks from now...LOL

Really didnt want to pull the header...but thats ok....I had a leaky gasket at the collector flange anyways....so killing tow birds with one shell.

P-S-T Suspension Pitaman Arm:
73/74 = $83
67/72 = $109
A little better pricing (?) :eek7:

Thats about the best price I can find for the 72 Pitman arm.....

Anyone have a part number for a Moog pitman arm for the 72?  I checked their catalog and they dont seem to list one...neither does Rock.

Is installing the pitman arm tricky at all?

Pretty much line up the grooves and bolt it down?

Going to call Firm Feel today to order a rebuilt box (they STILL havent replied to my emails yet.... :pullinghair:).....and if they can give me a good price on a pitman arm with my purchase I will go that route but if they want $150 for it, I will be going this route....

Pitman arms cant be rebuilt easily can they?

Right, nothing hard at all.  Are you going to get the '73 up gear box and use the cheaper pitman arm?

No.....Firmfeel told me that they would not take my 72 in exchange for the 73...I would have to first find a 73 core.

Basically, they are out of cores for 73s even if I wanted to buy one outright.

With the cost of the pitman arms being "only" $2o more for the 72 at PST, I think I will go on the cautious side and stick with my 72.

There seems to be various thoughts on whether the geometry and steering link changes from 72 to 73 (did a LOT of reading on this forum) so rather than tempt fate I will go with the 72 I have.

This way I can say its the original box, too.... LOL (not that THAT matters on my car at this point)...
