72 340 long block and extra crank
« on: January 09, 2010 - 08:11:08 AM »
I've been wanting a 340 for my Challenger for the past several months and I came across one for sale.

Its a late 72/73 cast crank long block with 587 heads.  And there's a freshly machined .020/.020 forge crank w/ bearings.

Is $600 for the setup reasonable?

I'm gonna use the heads on my 318 after I have them milled .010 to .020, and I'll rebuild the 340 with the forged crank over time.

What are 587 heads? Same as "J"'s? What condition are they?

I have known people to pay almost twice that just for a block!

Thanks all!  I guess I will snap it up...

quapman - the 587 head is a 1.88/1.60 340/360 head from the mid 70s... not ideal for a 318, but still better than stock for what I'm looking for...

That seems like a very nice (okay, awesome) price!!  Heck, I paid $900 for my '73 340 assembly (cast crank :( ) and that was years ago!
