Won't Start

Took out the steering column to put in the FF box.  Put the column back in, started the car and drove for 30 minutes.  Brought the car home and parked it. Went to start the next day.  In the ACC positon, everything appears OK, but turn the key to START and nothing at the starter.

Put my starter button on the starter relay and the starter turns fine.  I will be digging back under the dash to check the connections, but shouldn't they be fine if I drove?

The shifter is cable-shifted, so I have not checked to verify the Park position, but the shifter "feels" fine.

Other options?  Ignition switch in column?  Neutral safety switch?

I'm on the road for the next week, but want to have ideas for when I return.

Yellow wire on the starter solenoid cames from the steering column start circuit. check it with a test light. If you have 12v in start position, then it is the other terminal on the relay that goes to the neutral start switch. You should have ground in it.

Possibly the terminal in the column plug slipped & needs to be pushed back in.

Normally I would first check the NSS, but seeing as the column was moved around, maybe disconnected, I would concentrate on the column connector. As Bullitt said, seated all the way on? If you disconnected/re connected, did any of the contacts get pushed out the back of the connector?

Same thing happened to me a while ago.  Car ran fine one day, then nothing the next.  Turned out the plug at the bottom of the column must have vibrated just enough to lose the connection.

Alright, checked the connectors and re-connected.  Still nothing.

Time to check the starter relay next.

Did you try starting it in neutral ? Mine does that sometimes.

I'm not convinced that I'm in neutral...it's an aftermarket cable-driven shifter.

Try jumping it off the starter relay or maybe it's the ballist resister.

Alright, checked the connectors and re-connected.  Still nothing.

Time to check the starter relay next.

Try a test light on the yellow wire. Then follow it back all the way through the bulkhead connector, then to the ignition switch. Same yellow all the way back.

Along with previous suggestions...if they don't locate the problem, hold the key in the 'start' position and move the shifter and see if you get some action. Foot on the brake is a good idea.
