Barry, that`s a nice hind, that the datecode on the fendertag is just the "scheduled build date" and not the real build date! I don`t know any fendertag-decoder on the www, which shows this date-code as scheduled-build day only.

By the YOUR homepage is also REALLY GREAT! Do you want my car (`s numbers) to make your registry more complete by one car?

Larry, back to you & the JOB #s, these are the ones I know of so far where I know the JOB # & last six of the VIN;

JOB 5 - 100003

JOB 6 - 100013

JOB 8 - 100004

JOB 12 - 100015

JOB 159 - 100010

JOB 164 - 100019

JOB 165 - 100028

JOB 166 - 100021

So, for whatever reason, the JOB numbers were not issued sequentially by VIN either.

Diamante is 100022. It's fender tag was removed during the customization process, so it's JOB # is not known.

It had an 801 SPD, but the car was not invoiced until Oct. 29. It was shipped (New car drive away) from the plant to the Hamtramck Exectutive Garage, which was on site.

If it had been built on 801, it would have been invoiced MUCH earlier. ;-)

Did you have a broadcast sheet for yours Larry? I have not seen one yet for a 1970 car with a JOB # on the tag. There is someting I want to check on it if you have a scan or copy?

Barry...there wasn't a BCast sheet in mine(restored in 1983)...it was an SE, but had the original houndstooth interior, it is even visible in the Car and Driver Road Test article in Nov. 69(I think)...I was told by the editors at Car and Driver that for an article to be in the Nov. 69 issue, it would have went to print no later than mid October and would have had at least a 6 week lead time leading me to believe my car was actually built some time in Aug. 69...I was told it went to a dealership in the Cleveland area when it was new

...I was wrong on the Diamante (old brain)...about 15 years ago I ran into a guy with a 1971 pilot HEMI Challenger at Auburn...it was Yellow too and a JOB car, but I don't remember the number...friend of mine still owns the first 70 HEMI CUDA, #03...not sure if it has a BCast sheet or not...I might still have contact info for him if you don't

Gary called me once wondering if I knew of a broadcast sheet for it. I did not, but he had not actually searched the whole car himself. I told him where to look, but I have not heard back from him, so I do not know if he had any luck.  :dunno:

@Barry: first seven digits of my VIN is JS23U0B and the last six ones are 166453. If you were so kind to look in your database, that would be VERY kind.

...I had forgotten about #100010, red HEMI CUDA I think, it was advertised in Hemmings in the late 1980's as the 1st HEMI CUDA, I told him about #100003 but he didn't appreciate the info...it hasn't resurfaced in many years that I am aware of...is 100013 a white cv

I don't know if there is an actual account from someone managing the plant on how they "spun" the numbers with sequencing. I have a theory, based on what I know in today's production assembly process.

Prototype - clay or fiberglass models from which sections and dimensions are correct to design.
Engineering drawings made for tool and die shops
verification model- first stamped steel panels, assembled to a body fixture, verified in grid, usually JOB 1.
This verification model is the one from which all others will be measured to, within agreed upon tolerances.
If the car didn't build correctly, changes may have been made, moving to for example to JOB2. These changes are reflected by "CNs". Running changes made by engineering  after tooling release dates.

Subsequent jobs are listed as Vehicle Development.
Some of these departments had numeric codes.
Electrical
Brakes
HVAC
Powertrain
Transmission
Suspension
Crash Lab
photography/press

Cars built for these departments may have carried a code found in the VIN, thus enabling the plant manager the ability to track the car built for a particular department.
As stamped panels cone in the plant, they go on racks.
A car starts life on a jig with people, now machines, welding pieces on to a fixture.
As it moves forward on the production line, the more complete it becomes, the more specialized job it is for the oprator- TRACKING OPTIONS
here's where a little theory I have comes in about your non-sequencial VINs and non sequencial sequence number comes into play.
There is a central processing facility that had the orders, with the options. That the customer wanted.
Let's say cars 1-4 had been built with an AC firewall, and only 1,2,and 4 were supposed to be cars with the AC firewall.
The plant manager would go through the processing sheets and fin the next one with the AC option, and grab that Tag.
The same could be said if the plant ran out of supplies. Engines, sway bars, whatever.
I think my theory only works if the plant didn't stamp the VINs until the bodies were assembled.
I think the orders came In from the processing facililty, and the orders were processed
before unordered cars. (Again, a guess)

Sequencing is still very much a part of how we build cars today.
At the New plant in Toronto, they have Challengers, Chargers, and 300s rolling down the line. Are those numbers are all sequencial by VIN? ( good question, - I don't know)
The plant uses sequence codes to help allign the parts with each model.
I am sure it was not perfectly sequencial back in the day, but it has been refined a great deal as we move forward, making it nearly error proof. Of course technology helps out quite a bit too.

Mine was built in August of 1969.  The broadcast sheets and the fender tags are long gone, but the door plate is still on it.  The VIN is...well, in the interests of security, let's just say it's under 101400.  Given the low VIN and some of the options on it, I suspect it may have been an early dealership display vehicle, but that's purely conjecture on my part.

...I also owned a really early '71 CUDA, 440 6-BBL, AT...BS23V1B100105/6...bought it about 22-24 years ago...it was Curious Yellow/blk/blk vinyl top....Billboards/Louvers/rubber bumper/SHAKER...there were several cars built alike early in the run...for dealers to have on hand when the "Rapid Transit Caravan" came to visit their dealership is what I was told....I bought the car at a show, it was rare...came home that night and opened a MOPAR Magazine and there was a dead ringer to it in the issue...I ran an ad in Hemmings and sold the car a few months later and I received calls from several people with IDENTICAL cars and all the Vin# were very close...could have been 20 or so of the cars built exactly the same

There was a group of identical V code FE5 Challenger convertibles built very early in the production run too.

my 70 rt ucode has a A04 DATE , I ASSUME THATS OCT 4 1969?
