*need some quick exhaust manifold advice*
« on: January 14, 2010 - 02:08:02 AM »
I really need some help. I bought these headers from Herman and they have 5 miles on them if thatt and the paint already flaked off and they turned brown.
Plus the spark plug wire touches the header and it's not looking good.

I want exhaust manifold but I do not know which to get.
What year manifold will work for a 360 1974 dodge challenger? I was told 318 would work but they will choke up the motor. I found 360 manifolds but there are so many I don't know which will work and I need them asap because the car is in the shop 

help?!....
Thanks

A magazine(I can't remember which one) did an article on manifold swaps.  They found NO real differences on a mild engine.  Running the 318 manifolds had very little HP loss than a set of the good 340 ones.  Obviously that will be a different story if your running some bif HP numbers but on an everyday street engine...it had no effect.

That being said...I would not run 318 manifolds on a 360.  I'd just look for a set of 360 manifolds out of a passenger car application.  My guess is that the truck manifolds will be different and may not fit.  I don't think you will see any gains by running the magnum pieces but I maybe wrong.

Look for a mid to late 70's B-body.  I have a set of 360 manifolds from a 76 Charger that would most likley fit but they arn't for sale at the moment.

Is that exhaust manifold came from a 318 or 360 magnum? Or both of them will work?

Mine is 73 Barracuda will swap to 340 soon.

Thanks.

A while back we bought a 360 crate motor that was pulled from a 70 Cuda, which had a 68-70 340 manifold on the driver side, and a 92 Dakota 318 manifold on the passenger side.  The car ran high 12's with that setup.  From what I have read, the early 90's Dakota manifolds are somewhat desirable because they have a larger 2 1/8" outlet, whereas the later ones were reduced to something like 1 7/8" outlet.
