In a word, yes, color affects value.  A plain jane car 318 that is biege will never sell for as much as the same car painted a nice plum crazy or even a more modern color.  Conversely, a high value car (R/T or BB Cuda for instance) that has been repainted an "incorrect color" will probably bring less money.   This one being a blue 340 car, it's already got a leg up  - a lot of people like blue cars.  The blue interior is a little different matter.  Nowadays, people seem to like white interiors in blue cars.  Blue interiors are a more "acquired taste."  Personally, I love the B5 interiors..

If it mostly all original then I would be inclined to keep it that way.

B5 Blue E bodies are sweet.

I almost picked up this beauty at the Nats last year...

Are blue interiors hard to find or more expensive?

Yes and yes.

I agree with the above comments, but I would also say be careful on how much $ you put in to the car.  It's one thing to make it just the way you want it, but it's another thing to then try and sell it given cars beyond 1971 don't usually bring in the big $.  Just know that it is a hobby and thus, you won't likely get back $ for $.

Hey 71383, that b5 blue Challenger looks like the one I had up until 12/08!

I changed my 71 Cuda's (BS23) color. Because I hated gold at the time, and had it painted Ford Grabber Orange ???, JUST so it did not look like anyone else's car. Colors and be changed back easy, it's the numbers matching divetrain that would almost be impossible to re-unite again.. BTW, I still have the original numbers matching 383 and trans for the "purist" out there, if I ever have to sell.  Again... It's the drivetrain that most are concerned about in a "numbers matching" car.  :2cents:

Lots of good points on here...i build cars to keep not sell, if i do build it i will probably keep it until the day i die anyways. There are just so many different ways that i could do it running though my head that its going to be a hard decision. But im a very spur of the moment kinda person so it will just be whatever im feeling at the time

I got a fc7 car. I dont really care for fc7. At one time in 1972 it was painted orange. The new owner stripped the car to bare metal again in 1973 and let it set till I got it. I had it painted back to fc7 because I like to keep the cars originality.  My color choices are actually Red, Black, or Blue. Sometimes I consider letting my car go to get a different color, but it seems that lots of people in my area like to see a fc7 car :clueless:. Atleast it makes it easier to restore back as new for the next owner one day. We say we will keep our cars forever, but really we let them go eventually for one reason or another. That's how we got our cars we have now, accept for a few select people.

You make a pretty good point, but my family has a pretty good record with keeping our classics. My grandpa still owns his 56 t-bird that he bought in 1960, and his 61 ford truck that he bought in 64. my dad still has his 67 289/271hp mustang that was his first car that he got back in 75 and still has his 67 fastback stang that he got in 1980.     if you cant tell, my family are all ford people....not sure how i turned out the way i am  :smilielol:

A real 340 car is worth more stock or at least mostly stock including body color as a color change is a lot of work and $.I almost painted my cuda B5 but then realized it was  factory V2 and stuck with that although mine was only a 318 BH so I could of gone either way and been happy. As far as interior color a change to black isn`t too much of a negative though I personally like blue, white etc.-basically prefer anything but black as that is what the majority are.

My 72 CUDA 340 is a numbers matching car that was originally b5 Blue, it was repainted sublime during a rotisserie

rebuild. That was because the person who funded the repaint wanted it that colour !

I bought the car because sublime green is my favourite colour and this car is still worth big bucks over here!

I appreciate and admire concours restos, but for driving, they can be made better now. To me a 440-6 'cuda/challenger modified with fuel injection, modern suspension, steering, wheels, electronics etc, is worth more than any numbers matching rebuild. So I would change the colour...and anything else I felt like changing.
