skins or quarters
« on: January 16, 2010 - 12:19:56 AM »
We are about to order metal for the Charger. It needs lower quarters both sides. And rear valence/corners. Do you think it's worth it to stitch the skins in?They are half the price as the full quarters. I know it's a lot of work either way.  :1zhelp:   Thanks. R/T

the question is,are you confident with the 6 foot weld seam? are you paying someone to do the install or doing it yourself and have plenty of time and patience? I ,without a doubt buy full quarters ,it will be alot faster and job will be much cleaner, ridding of  issues that might show down the road,

BTW,if you need a quote for your sheetmetal needs,PM me,I can get you great prices on AMD stuff

I did the skins before full quarters were available and from now on I am only doing the full quarters. The skins are a pain and the full quarters go to factory seams making it easier to make it look like the metal wasnt replaced.

That's what i figured. Thanks.   I've used the skins a few times and don't care all that much for them. I can do a good job and have the patience. But was looking for some thoughts here.  It is a big seam,I Know. But the B pillar is all good and sails are dry as can be.  :pullinghair:   Oh well. sounds like quarters would be better.    ::)   paint will wait. Metal is forever.     guess that means new rear glass too.   :bricks1:

i am all for saving as much original metal as possible, skins or full depends on the severity of damage.
a weld is a weld to me, be it 1 inch or 6 feet.

I would say full quarters, the skins are terrible at the bottom where the quarter meets the rear corners.
The stamping of the full quarters is much better than the skins, all over the panel also.
If you can save everything but the lowests part of the panel MAYBE just a patch then repair the original, if there is more than just that, full quarter is what I would do.

I will only be doing full quarters from now on as well.  You get less warping when you weld in the original factory seams.

I have a catalog that you can download with the parts you are looking for as well.

Good luck...
