Tail panel license plate light access holes
« on: January 16, 2010 - 11:57:41 AM »
I am trying to find the plastic plugs for the two holes that are on the top of the rear tail panel on my 72 barracuda.

Dave from Roseville has been great and sent me several different pairs of plugs, this last pair he even tested on a panel.

Well, for whatever reason, the holes on my car's panel are larger....measuring 1 1/4" across......the plugs have been smaller.

in this picture I am holding the plug on the backside of the hole to show the size difference...

Any ideas why my holes are larger?  Can some one out there measure theirs and let me know what size they have?  My rear panel is original as far as I can tell....

Just went out and looked at my 71.  The plug  is 1 1/4 " from inside to inside.  It also has this size stamped in the plastic on mine.  From outside edge to outside edge it is 1 5/8 across the plug.

Dave,

the whole size is 1.25. ? Maybe the later panels the plugs were bigger. I'll check on that monday and see if I have flush plugs for the 1.25. I'll also pull another tail panel for 72-4 and see what that hole is. sorry for the problem on a simple plug

Hey Dave

Just wondering if you have had any luck on the plugs?

Will soon be getting to the point I will need them to seal up the holes.

thanks in advance

There are two different sizes that were used. I had the same issue with my 73 Cuda. RT specialties can get you the correct plug. The correct plugs are hard plastic and are flat across the top. Tom's number at RT Specialties is (570) 388-1082.

Here is the website http://www.rtspecialties.net but I strongly suggest you call Tom and tell him what you are needing or he will very likely send you the wrong size.

I have nothing here. Apparently they did change the plug size one of the years from what I have heard. All of the kits that I have from 70-4 have the same plug, Call to at RT and see if he hase a plug size your looking for. He doesnt list 1.5 flush plugs.

Just an update......Ordered the plugs from RT and they showed up today.....

Bingo!

My first thought was that the "correct" plugs would be flat topped and not dished in like these.....but no problem here...I just wanted to seal the holes!

Also got a new dome lens to replace the yellowed one I have and a new cowl drain flap....amazing how a couple pieces of plastic can make or break your day! LOL

here's a picture of mine from '73.  they are flat topped as you said, but yours will do the job.

Yeah I figured that.    :banghead:  Thats ok though....like I said I just want to fill the holes.

They will collect a small puddle of water I suppose, but that shouldnt matter either either.
