how to get paint off rubber parts

when my car was painted years ago, they didn`t bother masking anything.  a lot of the rubber seals and weatherstrips are in pretty good shape but they have a lot of paint on them... so ....how to strip those parts from paint without harming the rubber...?

Try DOT3 brake fluid.

If you can find  a product called PEELER at a auto paint supplier it works well on these parts. It is for stripping plastic bumpers.

brake fluid, it works ,its cheap and it works on plastic too! i bet the model guy on this site knows that too!

try aero start made by crc[its an ether based starting fluid] as always try a small area first.have had great results from this product

If you go to the paint store ask for 3812 that works really well.Made by dupont.

Think the dot 3 or that "Peeler" stuff would work on removing old undercoating from my plastic splsh shields underneath?

The shields have some cracks in them but are usable and I think I can repair them some.....but would prefer to get the old undercoating off....I got some off just by scraping and soaking with krud kutter and super clean, and even oven cleaner.....but man, there is some stuff that is just stuck on.

I used my pressure washer on my plastic splash sheilds.  The origonal undercoating came right off.

I'm in the same boat as a lot of others.  My cowl screans have body color on them from a repaint in the late 70's.  I tried brake fluid on the starter sheild and it worked OK in certain areas but didn't take the paint off as well as I had expected.  Maybe I just need to apply it and wrap it up with plastic wrap to keep everything saturated.

Will look again tonight, but not holding my breath.

I guess undercoating is just a lot more tough than paint.
