Motor is out of the challenger!
« on: September 13, 2004 - 09:38:11 AM »
Blew the head gasket on the 446' coming home from a show. Looks like the 1009' felpros were over hanging the bore a little bit. lasted almost a year. going to have to step up to a larger bore headgasket. Its good i took the motor out. Motor mount bolt was missing, convetor bolt was sheared off  :o, headers were rusty , wiring was liek a rats nest. things were just starting to look ugly.  Waitng for parts now to put the motor together, all new gaskets ,etc. New paint for the motor, polish the heads and valve covers. repainted the headers. going to move the msd inside the car and relocate the Fender mount realy to the fire wall. Also think im going to get a custom made ATi convertor. Nick

74chally - I feel your pain.. pulled mine out last weekend. I had to heli-coil 2 header holes and am putting a higher stall (..or better quality converter) along with new trans lines... so it's actually a greasy blessing in disguise.

Ok i cleaned up the wiring a little bit. Just trying to figure out where to mount the relay. I have it up on the pasenger side of the fire wall. To make it work there i will have to lenghten the starter wires and fusible link. Open to suggestions. I found where I'm going to mount the msd box. Right under the AC box inside ,I can mount it to the floor pan where it goes up.headers are painted now waiting on my gaskets ,etc. Tommrow I'm going to start calling around for a new custom built convertor.

Back in the old days they had barn raising parties. When I see you going through all that work on your own it eats me up inside. I wished we all lived a bit closer or had plenty of money to help each other out on our rides. At least I can offer up my cheers for you.

rah rah hurray..... with a yehawwww too.

Geez, you all could have come over to help with my springs.  Good luck getting that motor back in safely.  I am sure it will look awesome when it's finished.
