AC dash conversion
« on: January 19, 2010 - 09:40:05 PM »
Any suggestions on converting an AC dash 71 Challenger to a fresh air vent only system with heater/AC box removed? And yes, I know about the rolling down the windows. ;) I would like to use the right side cowl air duct and connect to center dash louvered outllets and be able to close or open the cowl air supply. This will be strictly a summer driven car. This is my first post, so bear with me.

Nobody's saying anything so I'll try to help...Not trying to be a smarta$$ but why?
Your A/C box does this for you, has a setting called Vent.   If you no longer have your box look for another or possibly an aftermarket box from that era that could be made to work.   Also might want to add the fresh air box on the drivers side with a cable to open.

Thanks Bullitt for the reply. All the engine AC stuff is gone and the interior A/C-heater-vent switch is inoperable and I don't want to spend the $$ to restore the A/C system. This is a just a driver/clone type car. And there is no cowl air inlet on the drivers side. AC cowls don't have driver's side air vents.May have to get creative.

I wish you luck but I would think if getting the controls to work is the only obstacle that would be easier & perhaps cheaper than reinventing the wheel, so to speak.
