Any GY4 pictures?
« on: January 20, 2010 - 04:51:33 PM »
Hi folks,

I've been wondering if there are any decent pictures of GY4 (Honeydew) barracudas around.  I've searched far and wide but all I've found is mine, and it's faded.  Maybe mine was the only barracuda in this color, making it super rare and valuable.  Yea, I'm sure that's what it is.  :smilielol:

Ahah, so they DO exist.  Thanks kissalien. That looks EXACTLY like mine.  It even has the red in the hood like mine,  I didn't think that was stock.  Where is this one located?  Any more info on it?

It could be yours for all I know. I probably got it off some site that was selling it or something.

Aha, so yours could still be the only one.   :poopoke:

X2.

I've got a '72 Challenger with the GY4 paint and have been looking for eons for a good picture as well.  I've never been able to tell if the factory paint on mine was actually GY4 or some hybrid (had it repainted some years ago but I don't think it's the correct original shade).  Probably the most difficult color to find.

Depending on how you looked at the original paint, based on the kind of light source, i.e. flourescent, incandescent, or even sun or clouds, the shade of color seemed to change.  Sometimes it looks the one Kissalien posted, sometimes it looks almost like Sunfire Yellow, other times somewhere in between (I had a friend call it once Lime Green, but I'm sure she was exaggerating).

I've looked over and over at photos my folks took of it when it was new for years and even up to now...same result (my Dad was the original owner and so I know he never had it reapinted).  I've also gotten different shade of it after having small cans of it mixed at various paint shops.

You are right about that.  I actually get a kick out of asking people what color they think it is.  Some say green, some yellow, some tan.  Some people even like to argue about it.  I think it's one of those colors that plays with people color blindness.  Esp with the hint of green in it.  I know that mine has been repainted in the past too.  So I actually have no idea if it's even close to correct.  But I like it.  ;)  I'd love to personally see an original one.

I've seen other Cudas with the orange painted scoop inserts but don't know if it is factory.  One thing that definatly is NOT factory is the black painted scoops.  They should be body color.

That is a great looking color.  Your right...you never see it.

Interesting.  I've seen so many black ones.  Mine above were poorly painted with some sort fire engine red.  I've pulled them off and removed the red to paint them black (which I thought was original). Now I might have to rethink the black.

Sweet ride! That color looks about right to my eyes.  I'd say it's GY4, GY3 was pretty bright.

My buddy has a 72 Cuda 318 in the same color.  A real Cuda, not Barracuda.  :swaying:

Nice!!! Since it's a '72, it's more than likely GY4.  I think they had GY3 in '73, which I think is a slightly different shade or color.

Nice to see a few more rides with this color!

You too, eh?  I thought I was the only one who had the same reaction to that color!   :)  It'd be kind of interesting to see how many Barracudas/'Cudas and Challengers were painted that color in '72.  Although it's not a high impact color like Hemi Orange, not many cars came in that color.
