Help, Leaf spring eye bracket studs
« on: January 23, 2010 - 02:41:35 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get some of the press-in studs for the leaf spring eye bracket on a 71 Challenger? I twisted off 3 out of 4 on the passenger side. I have don-e some Internet searches and all I come up with is the whole bracket with the studs included. The studs are 3/8-16 x 1.25 long with the press-in serrations a ¼ inch long. I hate to buy a new set for around $150 when the rest of the brackets and studs are fine.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry for the slow reply on this. For some reason, notification got turned off, so I did not see the replies.

Ted, I was thinking the same thing, but it is pretty tight in there to get a wrench on the head to keep it from turning. I have not tried to see if there is sufficient room or not. I just thought it would be nice to have the right thing if I could find. I got some buttom heads just to put the rear end back in, but have not tried yet.

Rusty Cuda, Those are exactly what I am looking for. If you don't want/need them, I would take them. I will send you some money to cover shipping and your time if you want. Shoot me a PM and email and get me your info. Thanks.

I think these are the similar as the brake backing plate studs.  I couldn't studs under 1/2" anywhere except Mancini and Dr Diff.

They very well maybe the same size as the backing plates. I did not think of those. I did a bunch of internet surfing and never found anything 3/8 for a stud. The problem with the few 1/2 studs I could find was that the press-in portion was too long. I will check out Dr. Diff and Mancini and see if they have anything close. Thanks for the help.

I don't know about individual studs, but Mancini does sell the entire bracket. I have a set on my car, as I also broke about half the studs on the hanger brackets on my car. The new brackets are very well made and look stronger than the originals. Plus, the have 2 eye bolt hole locations, so they can be used to lower the car 1" if you so desire.

72bluNblu,
Those look pretty nice. And, I just checked Mancini's website and they are reasonably priced. I had previously found them at Year One and Paddock, and both were around $150. I like the adjustablility of the Mancini ones. I will definately consider going that route when I get ready to put the rear end in for the final time. Thanks.

Did you check McMaster? $5 for a package of 10 means you have spares. Break out the calipers and check your good ones against their offerings; http://www.mcmaster.com/#threaded-rods-and-studs/=5mtbtf
