Wanted: wiring harness service
« on: January 23, 2010 - 09:49:02 PM »
I was wondering if anyone on here had the necessary things to repair my wiring harness in my72 challenger. It isnt in too bad of shape, its just cut here and there and needs to be converted for my rallye gauges (which were in the car when I got it....they just werent put in right at all..)

So name your price to make them ready to plug and play, or send me one and I'll send you my core and some $

Thanks

You can buy a brand new reproduction dash harness with all the correct color wires & connectors for the rallye dash also comes with a new fuse block from Year One, it is a quality item & fits perfect, I just installed one in my 70 Challenger, i didn't feel good about having repaired wires under my dash to risky.

yeah, I might have to resort to that, I just cant afford to drop $500 on every single thing I need for this car, it adds up really fast.

Im trying to do a budget build. I don't have a pension like most of you older fellows

I work full time for min. wage, trying to finish college, and im just trying to have a hobby at the same time

Im not afraid of repaired wires at all,

You shouldnt say name your price, it could be over 500 :roflsmiley:  But what is wrong with yours?  It is quite simple to do.  The clock and tach are the only 2 that you need to route

its just a mess from the prev owner butching it for a bunch of "sweet custom stuff", and I dont have a sautering iron, or proper tape, or even connectors, time to sit and make sure every line is right

Buy a multimeter and soldering iron and learn how to do electrical.  It's one of the best investments you can make.

2 things

1           Members here had donated some wire harnesses to me to help other members. I have some wires and connectors that might assist you

2    Ebay always has a harness for sale for your car....50 to 125 bucks most of the time. Standard dash types , but easy to convert

Figure out what you need and contact Bill Evans of Evans Wiring. I replaced my engine harness for $125.00. You can Google"Evans Wiring" for the web site. It may be less than you think. He makes and sells factory correct Mopar wiring harnesses. A lot of folks here have used him. I have spoken to him several times and he was very helpful with my project. Give him a call. He may be able to provide you with some wise direction/suggestions! If it's just a few connectors you need,as Moparal mentioned, he may be able to hook you up. I have a few old connectors/harness as well. Members here are very willing to help each other!! Let us know what you might need in the wayof parts/pieces!! Good luck! :picture:

Don't go cheap on the soldering equipment...Not that they are expensive but a Soldering Gun works much better in this situation than the pencil tip irons   & use Heat Shrink to seal the splices

Think I paid 15 bucks for one similar to this 15-yrs ago

Decent deal

I'm parting a 72 with std. gauges. I'll check for a harness later in the week.

IF you go shopping for one, 71's and 72's are the only ones that will interchange. They have the 3-prong driver's side door jamb switch.

I haven't seen a thread in a while for converting std. to rallye gauges. Maybe you could start one.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I have two different harnesses, so I should have everything I need

Quapman, if you find one please let me know, thanks

I think I may start a thread about converting it, I'll pull it from my dash tonight and take some pictures of it, and see what you guys think

Take lots of pictures of it on the bench that way when you re-wrap it you can locate the "arms" in the proper location.  First thing I did when I bought my car was pull the dash harness, solved lots of small problems and caught a big one with the wiper motor feed that had burned/melted through a couple others when the motor pivots seized.
