Might not be a bad deal IF that's OE paint or it's not full of bondo..
Strange that it has the Rallye Cluster but no side strobe.

If you look closely those are 70-71 style rallye gauges (reset knobs in the woodgrain not in the gauges). However that being said a friend of mine has a 72 cuda that she bought brand new that was an early build date car and had some 71 parts on it like 71 rallye gauges, so it may be possible for them to be original to the car, but not likely.

:iagree:  My '72 Rallye SPD is 8/17/71 and it has the '71 style Rally gauges.  I do not have the louvers/strobe stripes as well, but that may be because they were deleted due to the factory body side moulding, but this car does not have the moulding, at least in these pics.  A lot can happen in 30+ years to an old car.

I wonder if the VIN shows it's a "JS" car?  :clueless:

I must have missed this but where is it mentioned "$4500" for this car in the ad?  :clueless:

The tail panel is correct for a 72 Rallye.  The stripes could be deleted but could the louvers be also?  I know I've seen cars with the louvers but no stripes.  I don't think I've seen a Rallye without the louvers.

A picture of the fender tag would be helpfull.

I didn't want to say anything but since it's already been said, $8000 is huge money for a 72 that needs a complete resto.  You probably won't get half that.  I know it's crazy when people are spending $20,000 + on a big block 70-71 car that needs a complete resto but those cars have always brought the most money.   A 72 Rallye 340 4-speed car(completely restored and perfect) probably won't bring $30,000.

I know of a original owner 72 Rallye that was special ordered without the louvers or stripes. I talked with the guy at a local show 2 years ago. The car is eggshell white 340 4 speed. He ordered the car after seeing Vanishing Point. He said he wanted one like in the movie and that was as close as you could get in 72. Really cool car. I wish I had pics of it. You can bet the next time I see it out I will snap a few for sure.

Is there a delete code on the tag for the louvers...there should also be a delete code for the stripes.

For those of you who have 72's...do you have the big vapor tube in the trunk like the 71's or do you have the 73-74 style separator mounted on the shock X-member?  Do your cars have charcole canisters in the engine comp?

V88 is stripe delete. Not sure about the louvers being deleted with this code.

:iagree: I agree with what burdar says.  Would be cool to get some fender tag info.  :grinyes:  This is interesting!

As far as the louver deal, my best guess is that unless it was some early car that may be didn't get the louvers because it was still in the planning stages  :dunno: I think all Rallye cars came with louvers unless they came with body side moulding.  Like quapman stated, there is a code for stripe delete, but not sure what the code was for louver delete.  Who knows, maybe at the dealership they can be removed back then for the customer who didn't like them.

Reason why I say that is that my car didn't and  when I bought the car from the 2nd owner who just left it in a barn and didn't drive it at all, I drove it to the house of the original owner who told me all the sheet metal on my car is original.  He was only in 1 small accident where the drivers front wheel arch got a small dent but it was hammered out and it the original fender was kept.  I have looked inside my fenders and there are no signs of any holes from louver studs.

Burdar, I have a charcoal separator in the engine compartment, no big vapor tube in the trunk.

mine has the big vapor tube and had a charcoal canister with 4 lines to it also my fenders never had holes for the louvers so they were not installed from the factory,,i will post a pic of my fender tag later today and the build sheet

My '72 was built 8/17/71 also, same as Super Blue 72. While I don't have a rally dash, it does have quite a few parts that are correct for a '71. All of my window internals are the earlier style, and some of the dash switches are the earlier type as well. It also has the 71 and early 72 style fuel tank, vs the 72-74 type. Other than SuperBlue I've found a few other early '72 cars with the '71 style rally dashes that are original to the car. Enough, in fact, that I bought a 70/71 rallye dash for my car for when I convert it to the rally dash. I'm not sure how late into the year this phenomenon occurred, but I do know it happened for cars with earlier August '71 build dates.

As far as the price goes, I bought my '72, non-rally, 318/904 A/C car for about 11k, and that was 2 years ago now (I doubt I could get that now). It ran, looked pretty much like it does below, and was my daily driver after taking care of a few minor details.

I assume it origonally had a charcole canister in the engine compartment too correct?

So the early 72's had the 71 style tube in the trunk but a line went up to the charcole canister instead of venting into the framerail?
