general painting reference

While I'm making my own table with colors that should be applied to different parts of suspenson/accessories I thought it might also be useful to others.
I meant to make a table like below with specified part, color, finish and any remarks concerning different year or ass. plants. What ya think?
Such a table would save time on searching different forums and making mistakes...

Below is what I made - feel free to quote it and correct in following posts.
Let's start with an LA 70 challenger RT:

1970 Plymouth 'Cuda.  Matching numbers 440 U Code, 4 speed pistol grip, Rallye dash, AM 8 Track, Shaker hood, 15 inch rallye wheels, Dana 60 4.10, Super Track Pak.  One of 134 - 440 "U" coupes codes built in 1970 and one of 100 - 440 Super Track Paks built in 1970.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

I guess the majority should as the drivetrain and suspension is identical in both cars.

Spring and hook were a brown color, I believe phosphate coating.

Your list looks pretty good.  There are a couple differences that just pertain to year.

What dictated the yellow trans mount?  Was it all R/T's?

1970 was the only year the booster/master cylinder was painted black.  Other years the masters were natural and the power boosters were zinc plated.  Later years used cast iron proportioning valves which were left natural.

The drums were painted a red/orange color on the face, ONLY if the car was getting styled wheels.(where the drum could be seen through the wheel)

You didn't mension anything about yellow axle bumper attaching plates.  I'm not sure when those were yellow and when they were natural.  Maybe just the HEMI cars got the yellow paint?

This list contains some spectacular imagery for restoration.
These Restoration threads- show the correct ways to restore your Challenger.
I have many friends that specialize in the "correctness" of such a restoration.

My good friend Gian Moriconi has got to be my best reference. He knows nearly everyone in the resto business, and he is a designer that has an unbelievable eye for detail.

I am putting together a powerpoint to specifically cite out the paint op procedure...A picture is worth 1000 words....

In the meantime, here are a few threads that I find VERY helpful.

Alan Gallant's work is a little over-restored, but regardless, it's  fantastic work.

Body in white's (BIW) were primed in some areas with red, then coated with grey. If you imagined yourself with a gun, on a line painting everything that you could get to in the car
from outside of the car, that will give you a good idea what to paint.
The interior firewall and floor were painted with a thin, not very glossy bodycolor. No clearcoat is correct.
The firewall has some areas of blackout. Corner firewall pillar supports &  glass channel
The car is painted with the fenders, hood, trunk and doors on. Areas in front of the door managed a thin coat of paint.
The firewall/A pillar support had primer, and some level of dusted paint from the wheel well opening.
The front and rear wheel wells were painted within the opening, not a huge level of care was placed on anything behind the lip, or out of sight.
The front wheelwells were painted body color, then painted with a black Organasol paint, masking out eh area of the upper& lower control arms
The engine bay was painted (with the fenders, hood, hood hinges on) down to the seam of the lower firewall/floor joint.
The engine bay did retain gloss
The front radiator support was painted with Organasol from the front, with sporadic masking (many examples exist either way)
The lower radiator support also received the Organasol treatment from the front (Spray bomb is appropriate)
Technically speaking, the only cars that received full top paint were those specified by the fender tag. Moreover,
        cars with vinyl tops never got more than lead and a primer treatment, which is why they rusted out.
Nothing above the belt on the interior was hit with a heavy coat of paint, some primer is correct. (image yourself on a line painting the inside of the car from the outside as lazily as possible.)

The hood was painted when in the up position, hinges in place. Hinge springs received overspray in 1970 & 1971 (black phosphate is correct)
Underside:
The underside is a grey primer, with overspray from the rockers.
Finishes specific to the particular parts are cited in the web images.
Once cars were painted the body color of choice, the secondary colors were the (grille separate and)  tailpanel. Argent silver Organasol for the Base models, and dark argent Organasol for the R/T models.
There is a discrepancy between years with black Organasol vs. the dark Argent  for the R/T model. ( I will get confirmation)
Tail panel stripes were painted with a mask.
Longitudinal stripes were applied tapes.


I love the site. real friendly, helpful people. The finishes previously stated are true and correct.

Hopefully this works very well as a descriptive resource for you to help prep your painter.
I will gather a powerpoint within a few days time. I will try to find the most correct images to convey the descriptions related in post.
