8 3/4 Rear End and 340 Engine
« on: January 26, 2010 - 02:42:38 PM »
I already mentioned this in another thread under Suspension, but does anyone know if an 8 3/4 Rear End from a B-Body will fit correctly into an E-Body (specifically a Challenger)?

I am also looking for an 8 3/4 Rear End.  Can anyone help?

I would also be interested in a 340 as well.

You can use a 68-70 B-body in a Challenger with offset spring mounts.
Dr Diff sells a kit for this.  In these pictures you may be able to see the offset mounts. This is a 70 b-body width Strange Dana.

The B-Body rear is shorter, that's why you need the offsets...But yes, it will fit in an E-body.

Yep, it is one inch narrower. Gives you slightly more room for bigger meats   :burnout:

How much does it offset? Can originals be fabbed? Any pics of mount up close?

I just checked my pictures, it looks like I didn't take a good shot of the mounts. If no one posts a picture I can get one tomorrow.

Dr. Diff's kit is around $180. You can use a stock e-body rear but the spring perches will have to be cut off then rewelded 1" towards the inside. Using a 68-70 b-body rear, allows you to just drop it on to the moved springs without any welding.

These arre the left side, tough to get pictures where the car is right now. If you need better ones I can put it on the rack to get them.

Thanks for the pics Dave.   :2thumbs:

I was helping Challenger500 today. He just bought a Dana 60 and needed me to haul it over to his place. After dropping it off, I got to see the offsets up close in person on his car.

He's changing to a 4 link possibly so he said he might sell me his set up.

I would like to add that the offset hangars supplied by Mopar are only .8".       Dr.Diff's are 1" and reduce the stress you see on the rubber bushing.  I used Prothane #4-802-BL bushings instead.         Nice color car!

I have an B-Body 8-3/4. On My axle the leafspring shoes on the axle had been moved to fit. Now I have an XV Level II setup. Did use the Dr.Diff hangers to move the trailing arms inwards. Hopefully I'll be able to fit 18x12 with 335's
