Who makes axle housing studs?
« on: January 26, 2010 - 09:55:31 PM »
I just realized I'm getting my Dana 60 back to install this weekend and I have no axle housing studs.  These are the ones that hold the backing plates on.  Any ideas who makes these/specs? Thanks.

I have used grade 8 fine thread 3/8" bolts , you just need to grind off one corner & they will sit flush in the end housing

Thanks Neil.  A few more questions...Would they need a shank to fit tightly in the hole or would you not worry about that?   I've made a few calls this AM with no luck on sourcing these.  The dealer says they are discontinued.

they need to be about 1/3/4" long , the shank will nto press fit , but I have not worried about it , you could tack weld them in place though , what car is the Dana for ?

I'm building a '68 Valiant.  Its a rust free Arizona car.  I bought it stripped to bare metal, disassembled.  The undercarriage was professionally painted black, it has a restored/rebuilt k-frame/front suspension w/discs, 340/4 speed set-up (sold) and lots of great trim and bezels.  I'm thinking about putting in a new SRT6.1 hemi/auto but we'll see.  I have a 400 and a 440 too.  I've got the Dana narrowed with new axles, gears, Detroit Locker, new springs, brakes, Slide-a-links, springs moved in 3" and with new 275/60/15 Street Drag radials.  Once I get the back end finished I'll put in the new lines and get the engine bay done.  The car is cut in now (engine bay, trunk, underside of hood, trunk lid) and I painted a set of 15x8 and 15x6 wheels (forest green).  It should be a neat car.

Couldn't find anybody who made or sold these except Mancini and Dr. Diff.  I guess there is no other applications for this part.  It would have cost more than $50 and taken 2 weeks to get them.  A friend pulled some out of an 8 3/4 he was taking apart.
