My database of N96 Challengers is starting to grow with around 60 + cars but I am looking for more information.  So, if you own are real 1970 or 1971 N96 Dodge Challenger please do contact me so I can add yours!

Here is what I know as I got alot of this info. from Daniel Banker.  Daniel passed away a few years ago and had a lot of information on shaker challengers. I am not sure if he was able to pass any of this information on before he passed away.

In 1970 there were the following:

184 Total
164 R/T’s, 15 R/T SE’s, and 5 R/T Convertibles
The ONLY engines could be the 383, 440-4, 440-6,  or 426 Hemi
There are NO R/T’s with a 340 in 1970

In 1971 there were the following:

224 Total
72 JH non R/T (340 or 383)
11 JH Convertibles (no R/T converts in 1971)
39 R/T Small Block (340)
102 R/T Big Block (383, 440-6, or 426 Hemi)

There are three different Challenger Shaker Hoods

Early 1970 (Before early to mid October, 1969) with NO crush zones w/raised boss for triangle emblem

Late 1970 (after April 15th) and 1971 with crush zones w/raised boss for triangle emblem

Late 1971 (or more likely over the counter part) with crush zones but NO raised boss for triangle emblem

There seems to be NO 1970 N96 Challengers known to exist that were built between October 11th, 1969 and April 15th, 1970.  I have seen a few examples but they NEVER have a Broadcast Sheet or Documentation.

...4-spd, tried to purchase the car a year or so ago...it also has an interesting history

sidenote...I was going to order one EXACTLY like this in Dec 1970, then found out Uncle Sam was hiring me and cancelled the deal

There are NO R/T’s with a 340 in 1970?

I seem to remember seeing/hearing about 1 or two.
The one I can recall was a black exterior, red stripe 340 R/T car...
Coulda been a fake, but then again, I never heard of one before or since.

None. The 340 cars were JH, even the T/As. All the R/Ts were JS.

Sounds like you got a good start, 20 out of 408.     Seems like a pretty exclusive club.

On a side note, do you know where these production numbers came from.  I don't question them at all.  But, have the production numbers for all the cool options been published somewhere?  Can they be had directly from Chrysler?  Or maybe from Govier?

As for these numbers, I do know a guy that wrote into Chryster back in 1994 asking about his shaker car which is a 340 RT Challenger and he did get a letter back saying that there was only 39 of them made (340 RT)

So yes, I would assume that Chrysler kept records of these cars. I am sure Galen would know as well but good luck finding anything out from him with out paying him first. As far as I know that these numbers have never been pubished in any books. (More so hear say)

The challenger will be ready to go once the snow is off the ground, it is in NH. If you do get back stop by Scholbrock's house and he will take you over to check it out. As for Daniel shaker info., I am sure someone has his stuff just haven't come in contact with the person yet. Hopefully soon,

Is your Challenger back in Iowa yet?

Tim is hoping for a May completion.  They moved the shop into the old showroom so they've been busy setting everything up.

Have you read the thread on Moparts about the N96 cars?  Danial Banker posted a lot on info in that thread.  I can post a link to it here if you want.

Did you see the red one on Ebay right now? I did not grab the link when I saw it, but I can find it again if needed.
