That was a bad deal....   Lots of very nice cars trashed.  I wonder how the insurance works on a deal like that?  Each car owner applies to his own car coverage I guess??      I wouldn't think the auction host would bear responsibility here?

I would think it's up to each persons own insurance to cover it. I think all classic car insurance allows for car shows, so they would have to cover it.

Of course,the situation could have been a lot worse.The storm could have come through just after the auction when most of the buyers had not had time to arrange insurance cover.That would be a sickener

The Russo and Steele auction is located about a mile away from where Barrett Jackson has theirs.  We had crappy weather most of the week and a huge wind storm that caused the tents to collapse.  I'm sure the damage will be a mess to figure out between Russo, the guys who erected the tents, car owners, insurance companies, once again the attorneys win in the end.
I've never made it to the Russo event but usually go to Barrett and Jackson, I recommend it to anyone that can make it, usually we have pretty decent weather in January.

so, is there somewhere in between?  i won't be doing 18" bling, but i think the 15" Minilites should look rather nice.   
 (but i'm gonna keep a set of rallye's....just in case.) 

on the 'vert, it's gonna be hard to find the chrome/stainless trim, unless you find a really, really good metalsmith to work it all out.

I bet the auction company has some sort of insurance to cover something like that. At least no one was hurt. all the cars will be fixed.....except maybe that black firebird TA..that looked totalled out.

Sure was a sad and ugly aftermath. I would think the auction company would be required (just plain logic) to carry lilability insurance for personal injuries in and for any reason on the auction site to cover medical cost but the responsibility of damage to the cars would be up to the owner. However as someone has mentioned your paid admission as a seller or buyer, even spectator may have required you to sign a personal libility waiver form which would fully remove the auction company from responsibility.

On a side note, feel bad for the owners of those cars that got damaged.
