The patches arrived today.....but they sent me the wrong side. I ordered for the passenger side....not left or right...but passenger. all of the patches that arrived were drivers side. gotta call tomorrow for the guy that originally helped me out to get it all situated. more delays

it will now be a while before i get started.  I spoke to the guy and he said that i needed to ship the parts back and when they were received then they would ship the correct ones. so i said so i am stuck footing the bill to ship this stuff back, and then he said that he would get hold of UPS and get them to come get it. he didnt seem happy about that. so now, once UPS comes to get the stuff (no timeline given) it will go back, then my new metal will be shipped out after it is received....anyone wanna take bets on how long till i start

More fun to the drama of getting this done..

The first time the parts got here, there was no signature required and the parts were just left on the door step. Well apparently when they shipped the correct parts out they put a signature required and didnt let me know that. So UPS attempted to deliver on Friday and left a slip saying they would try again Monday. I tried calling UPS and they told me that the store that was delivering it locally is not open on Saturdays so I would have to wait till Monday. So now my cutting and stuff is going to wait until next weekend. I am just hoping that all goes well for next weekend. There are only a few things that would get in the way...like my wife going into labor early. I wish that the parts guys would have told me the tracking number or something when they left the message on the phone. oh well..another week.

We got started today. got the rear patch in the 1/4 panel and the patch on the front fender. one more patch and we are done with the lower metal. when we took the fender off, we found that the fender frame was rotted really badly, so we built our own patch with some two by fours and c clamps. I have pics but i will have to get them posted in the next couple days. Good amount of progress, and I learned how to weld today on the front fender.  probably another couple of weeks and we are going to tear the vinyl top off and attack the rust on top. fun stuff!

Well, lets clarify since I am now just reading this. there was an error, as the order was place with Paul for left side parts as looking at the car. Which technically is the right side if your sitting in the car. mistakes happen. right and left of the car is always referred to as sitiing in the car. Paul called back and reclarified what you were needing the second time around.
As for the signature required not sure what happened their.

When i order, i order drivers or passengers so there is not a mix up like this. Not sure what happened to make all the mix ups and the signature thing but it is over and done with now. And i left all company names out because i didnt want to hit anyone with bad stuff. Dave has provided great service for me previously so this is just one bad dealing and I didnt deal with Dave personally.

On another note...is there suppoesed to be a big block of lead behind the rocker panels? I found a big block of lead in there below the back corner of the door on the rocker panel. we melted it out so that we had somewhere to weld the patch panel into but Im not sure if this is from the last time that body work was done or if it was factory lead?

Yes there is lead-work below the door where the rocker meets the rear quarter...

make sure you take care of your Wife!!! Our baby is 6 1/2 weeks old!! So let me just say, life is going to get VERY interesting! unless you already have kids!

I wouldn't change it for the world!

Thanks wally. We were just at the hospital thinking the baby was coming. This is number two for us. We have a 3 year old boy too. the car is getting put on the back burner now for a couple weeks until things settle. We also are moving to another house on base...now I will have a garage to put her in! (the car...not the baby) lol

Oh, not to worry, garages make for great baby storage!     You say on base, as in military housing?  If so, just be careful of the housing nazi's!  They don't like it when you change your oil in your driveway, let  alone anything more involved!

yeah..they have gotten me for just taki g the hood off the car to look at the engine. Go figure. Atleast now I can hide my work in the garage.

Dang it....now I have to figure out how to put something there since I melted the lead out...

I use a product called "Metal to Metal" or "All Metal" available at an auto parts or autobody  supply store. You can put it right over bare metal then bondo on top of it if needed.

Hill Billy, The dash is burnt orange too but it also has a dash pad on it.
