Dark Argent Paint Mix??
« on: February 10, 2010 - 09:44:33 AM »
Does anyone out there know where I can get the color mix for dark Argent Silver.   I do not want the texture in it ..... just the colour, as I am painting my bumble bee stripe this colour to match the shaker scoop.

Please advise if you know the mix, or where I can find it.   Since the car is being painted in two stage, there needs to be no textured surface .

Thanks ..... Gary

I found a formula online to make your own argent.  I e-mailed it to my painter but was told that the base ingredients are no longer made.  The EPA outlawed their use.  Some companies like BE&A spent a lot of time and money designing there own argent to match Chrysler color samples but they don't sell it.  My guess is that you will just have to do some experimenting yourself to find a close color.

Totally auto's argent is going to be textured.  He needs a paint that has NO texture to it.  I think he's going to have to experiment with colors.

I think the point the_engineers was making is that if he contacts Totally Auto they may be able to help him with a non textured formula since they mix their own paint.

Anything is worth a try I guess.  I highly doubt a company who sells paint, is going to give someone else a clue on how to make their own though.

Try to google "argent paint" and see if you can find the old mixing instructions.  Maybe your painter knows what products replaced the unavailable ones.

That's not to say they won't sell him a non-textured batch.  You never get what you don't ask for.

Check with SEM paints. They offer several shades of grey for bumpers and molding. There might be something close that you could use. Chrysler painted alot of molding on Intrepids and neons with a metalic grey color.

Thanks Guys ... still searching, but may settle on something close or at least in the same tone as the argent colour.   Since this is for my bumble bee stripe, I don't need something that is exact, just close.   The theme is to have the shaker bubble match the rear bumble bee stripe to make it look "intended".

Thoughts or comments?

Cheers ..... Gary

The color of my Challenger is JA5.(dark silver metallic)  That may be close to what you are after.  See if your painter has a code for that color.  THen you can fine tune it to suit your needs.

I like the idea.  What color is the car going to be?

We have found a colour that is pretty darn close .... it is a Mopar colour, but the number escapes me right now.   It has a similar amount of metallic and is almost a dead match for my textured argent shaker bubble.

Thanks guys .... I believe that I will consider this topic closed.

Answer to the question on my body colour is 1971 Sno White.   It will be a two stage paint.   Bumble Bee stripe and shaker bubble in Dark Argent.  No vinyl top.   Probably Torque Thruster II wheels (18's and 17's).    Interior Black with the leather inserts.

Cheers guys and gals .....

Can't wait to see the pics! I bet the white and argent will look great. I think yellow and argent would stand out too.
