Stiff Gas Pedal, I Want It More Loose/Touchy

Hi guys,


My gas pedal has always been quite "stiff", like you have to put quite a bit of pressure on it to get any forward movement. I'm not being a sissy either LMAO just sometimes in tight locations, this can be a hindrance. I have always liked my vehicles with touchy pedals so I can have 100% control and feel. Light to press as such. How do I achieve this? Surely not just spraying CRC or WD40 on the pedal rods LOL Any help is appreciated.

I have always liked a stiffer pedal so I use a pretty stiff return spring. Unless something is binding somewhere just put a lighter spring or springs on the throttle linkage and you will get a softer pedal.

Not really, no LOL. Nah, I gave up smoking around 11 months ago, feel much better for it. I'm now an Uncle which is awesome, never been big on kids but this has changed it, I look forward to seeing him at any chance I get (he's only 11 weeks old). I'm still driving the cars and enjoying life! Looking at amping up Lucy's engine though, 7 years of stock hp has finally gotten to me.

Congrats on quitting smoking and the nephew. I quit about 9 years ago now. Dont get depressed if you gain a few pounds, amazing how good food tastes once you are not putting your taste buds to sleep with nicotine lol.

Yeah mate, even boozing it up, I don't even feel like them, I thought that'd be the hard part but no worries. I agree, food tastes HEAPs better and you no longer go around smelling like chimney straight after a smoke.

One place that gets neglected and is often the culprit is
the pedal pivot bracket. It can get rusty or can fill with
carpet fibers making the pedal fill stiff.

I like a light throttle pedal and I never get on well with the usual return spring set up.  Usually too heavy for me.

On my 'cuda I have rigged up a compression spring over the throttle cable which pushes the throttle closed (instead of pulling it closed).  It's nice to drive and as a bonus there is zero radial spring pressure on the throttle pivot.

I can't remember for sure but I think I got the spring out of an old pressure washer.

My pedal is very stiff, I put it down to the modifications adapting from 2 bbl to 4 bbl that was done by a previous owner, I will fix as necessary.
I will be pulling cable out and checking as C.P. has said to make sure it is not binding, then a light machine oil down the cable and as light a spring as possible for a return spring. I like the idea that UKcuda put forward, will look into.

 Along with cable binding problems, using too light of a spring can allow  vacuum to keep the blades open on decel.

I prefer a stiff pedal myself. When I let off the gas I want the throttle blades to snap shut.

Congratulations on getting off the smokes Carl, I did that on my 24th birthday & have never regretted it.
