Changing From Stock to Tilt Column?
« on: February 12, 2010 - 04:31:45 AM »

What's involved in doing this, is it hard, any special tools? Anyone done it and have a quick run down (step by step process). Would like to do this soon and help remove that famous "e-body shuffle" LOL.

Thanks!!

There were a couple threads on this last year. Maybe someone could dig them up.

Here's one.....

there was never a tilt column offered int he E body so you have to adapt a column from another car , the wheel will nto tilt very far before it interferes with the top lip on the dash pad

Thinks Neil, my bad, I should have mentioned I have an XV (Ididit?) column I purchased ages ago that I'd like to install. I've heard it's the pin if anything that takes a little convincing to remove. A bolt and punch to remove it and everything else is straightforward.

Well I have never done that swap , the roll pin is not bad to remove , hammer & punch , hit it hard a couple of times & it will slide out , I use a pickle fork to get the coupler to slide off the slines if it is tight , the rest Should be a bolt in , I assume you have some kind odf adapter to plug in the Turn signal switch as they use a gm switch to my knowledge

Thanks CP, I haven't had a good luck at the connection as yet but worst case scenario I'm sure an auto sparky mate of mine can adapt the wiring properly, I hope lol. I'll definitely make sure prior to removal and do my home work.

Thanks again.  :worshippy

"help remove that famous "e-body shuffle" LOL"

I've been told that sit-ups can help with that..   At least in my case...

Actually I've been thinking about that too.  I've heard that Cordoba consoles work with a little customizing, but never seen it in person.

Let us know how the Ididit install goes for you, I have been thinking about doing the same thing.
