Do you drive your car often or mostly show it?
« on: February 12, 2010 - 06:14:12 PM »
I see many cars on this site that are rotisery restored. Some are just plain beautiful eye candy and then some I see driven a lot on the streets in cruises, small get togethers and out enjoying what they were made for.  Keeping a car clean for shows has got to be a very tough job if you drive it weekly and put it up for winters. So do you own your car for show or for driving on weekend and short trips?

Me I enjoy my car as often as I get a chance and I live on a dirt road, so the under side doesnt get the attention it should, but I dont drive it in the mud or rain.

I drive mine as much as I can, usually about 1500 to 2000 miles a year.  I stick mostly with good days, but do not care a whole lot if I get caught out in the rain.  We built this car to drive, so that's what I do.

I did mine on a rotisserie since I didn`t want to spend who knows how many hours laying on my back cleaning it, and getting all burned up from welding above me.  It took me about a day and a half to build the rotisserie and it was well worth the effort.  I will drive it as much as I can when done.  Never meant to build a museumpiece, just a reliable rustfree hotrod to kick some porsches butt every now & then  :burnout:

I bought mine to enjoy, I started with the 1,800 mile cross country trip from Kansas to L.A. Since arriving in Australia I have driven as often as possible, the last 12 months I have had to store it. Hopefully it will be cruising the highways soon, it always gets attention where ever it goes.    :2thumbs:

I love to drive my car. I love cruising & go to cruise-ins more than shows. I do small trips around my area where I may take it out for a 50 mile or so country cruise. I don't drive it in the rain unless I get caught in a storm. But with all the money and sweat I've invested, I do like to also show it. I realize I can't compete with a 100K trailer queen and not to take away from them, I love to see them, but I don't have that kind of money or level of restoration done to mine. What does it for me is seeing some folks at a show run past a row of Mustangs and over to the Challenger to ooh & ahh and then we talk Mopars. That's what makes the shows fun!!!

I really like to drive my car.  The only time my car has been at a show is when I was lucky enough to get a good parking space after driving it there.  It has enough miles on it now that the paint on the bottom and frame rails has a bunch of nicks and scrapes.  I figure that once it gets rough enough, I will redo it again, but I doubt it will ever be on the rotisserie again because I try to keep it clean enough that it should just need touchups on the bottom.  I really love to see the trailer queens and the historically important cars kept in perfect condition, but nothing is as cool as seeing one of these monsters in the wild. :2cents:

Mine is no trail queen for sure. I will get it out as soon as the many feets of snow melts here.   :stomp:

For me, I do all of the above in my car, I drive it daily, I take it on trips (like the 250 mile each way trip next weekend), I take it to burger nites at local places, and I do show it. I love my car and couldn't just have it sitting (unless its down for repair, hopefully not too much of that anymore, running out of parts to break, I hope).

I drive it, race it, show it, cruise night it and clean it.  Usually put on  1 or 2 hundred miles each weekend in season.  I averaged over 5000 miles each year for the last 8 years.

I'm not sure how to answer this. In 2000 I towed it to Detroit, then in 2005 I towed it to NC, and a few weeks ago I towed it back to VA. I don't think that counts as driving it, but I don't think it counts as showing it either, although every time I stop to gas up the truck people ask about it

My T/A was my daily driver for years, 23,000 miles or so.

Not one car show the whole time.

If I every get it put back together, I will be racking up the miles on it again.

If you ever see it at a show, expect some road grime.
