Drove a 2010 Challenger RT hemi today
« on: February 13, 2010 - 07:45:59 PM »
So I'm in a local Dodge/Chryler dealership today just trying to get a close up of the new Challenger.  Curiosity and have never seen one close up.  As soon as I started looking, a salesperson came over and started his routine.  Told him I was just looking, but if he would take my 2007 Mustang on trade and put me into the Challenger for $400 a month, I'd take it.  He said he could probably get close and I said that I was very confident he couldn't.  Bottom line, he talked me into a test drive on a red, 5.7 with those beautiful chrome wheels and a six speed.  Wow, that thing was awesome!!  Great power and nice to drive and I am partial to red cars.  When all was said and done, he could only get to $510 a month and it was tempting but my youngest daughter is getting married in June and I had to exercise common sense.  I guess.  I was very impressed with the Challenger and maybe I'll revisit the possiblity in the fall.

Nice to hear you had a favorable review compared to your Mustang. I have not driven one yet, no need to drive myself crazy, it will be at least a full year before I can get one.

The Mustang is just a six cylinder daily driver.  Nice little car, but when I drove it home after driving the Hemi, I was a little deflated.   :roflsmiley:

So my wife is in PA visiting her sister and I told her about my test drive when I talked to her last night.  She said, "oh, that's nice".  Today she calls me to wish me a Happy Valentine's Day and asked me if I was going to buy the Challenger and I said not likely.  Then she said if I really wanted it to go ahead and check out the insurance and that it's not like another $110 in a monthly payment is going to break us.  Man, I just she would have said nice try, but no dice.  Now I'm kicking it around.   :clueless:

At least they let you test drive.  Last time I went to look at one they would only let me drive it in the parking lot.

According to Chrysler, the 2012 models will be the last. That is if they build them that long. I say don't wait. If sales don't pick up soon, they'll cancel the Challenger at the drop of a hat.
I would love to have bought one this year but I bought a new Dodge four door hemi pickup instead. Can't live without my truck.

Considering the ecconomic situation of the auto dealers I'd say it should be a buyer's market. Used to be any deal written also had to be approved by the dealerships sales manager. Try and talk to him and just tell him your not one for haggeling, just tell him to give you his bottom line best deal he can write up. Your buying or your walking.   Good Luck   :2thumbs:

Yeah, due to Presidents Day I'm off tomorrow, so I'm going to swing by and tell them just that.  Give me your best deal and see what shakes out.  One of the bad things is that there are factory incentives and rebates for the Charger RT Hemis, but not the Challengers.  If I could get those for the Challenger, I'd tell them to start the paperwork. We'll see what happens tomorrow.  Thanks.

I've been to 3 different dealerships to test drive one, and they won't let me! I told them, can't know if I like driving the car until I actually drive the car. Guess they don't want my money too bad.

Comparritively there are really not that many sitting on lots and they of course want to keep them "factory fresh". Used to be a dealer would set aside one car from each model group for a test drive unit, that kept miles off the others. There are a lot of tire kickers (not really interested in buying) looking and wanting to drive. The Challenger has been well accepted even by X brand owners, the Challenger represents what it once was, Chrysler was even smart enough to make it a two door model, unlike another grand old car they mutilated in design.  :roflsmiley:  So dealers don't want the one or two Challengers they have to have enough test drive miles on it for it to be like a used vehicle.  :roflsmiley: If you live close to a bigger dealer who may have more Challengers sitting on his lot they would probably let you take one for a 3-4 mile drive.  :dunno:

I want one pretty bad. IMO 510 bucks a month is a LOT of money. I could get a real AAR for around that. Or a real nice 'cuda,RR,GTX,Ect...  And it holds value.    But then again the new Challenger is freakn' NEW! Err slightly used for me. I see 5.7L 6's for 32K on Ebunk m CL. I will own one someday. Have to patiently wait. They are coming down slowly.  Sounds like a tease to me. Do I hear 475?   I feel yer pain.

Yeah, but I already have my "special" car.  The Challenger would have been a daily driver.  I ended up walking away and told them when the factory starts offering incentives and rebates like the Charger to call me.
