Theft prevention
« on: February 15, 2010 - 07:09:07 PM »
This is a tidbit of info I gleaned from a convicted car thief I've met in the process of trying to find my stolen 70 Challenger.  For those of you who are using lowjack, Forcetracker and other sorts of GPS or other tracking devices, Thieves have devised detectors to pick up the signals given off by these devices when they are activated.  Just something I think you should all be aware off.

I kinda wondered how long it would take before they figured them out.I saw a show a few weeks ago that showed how thieves are using screen style baby monitors and driving around and picking up people's monitors and can see in the house.

yes you are right,,thats why the car needs other devices that can shut the car down,,at best they would have to use a tow truck or something,,but thief's are not beyond that, sorry a$$ that they are,,most of us work all our lives to have something they we can call our own,,low lifes and drug addicts, that are to sorry to work wont to steal it,they have no concept of what really means something,,sell it for parts or whatever and then theres the rich that buy stolen cars an change them at a low investment and neither know  what it is to be a real man,,but oh well God will judge us all,,and all we can do is keep surviving and pray for our own sins,,as they will pay for theres just like we will,,

Sometimes an old fashion kill switch placed in a secure place with a good steering lock put on upside down, that is the key away and down will deter or stop them driving away.
If they want it they will come prepared.   :naughty:

A few years ago a car alarm specialist here in Australia made what they claimed was the perfect alarm. They fitted it to a new Ferrari belonging to a very rich man who had an eloborate alarm system at his house and garage as well. It was demonstrated to him and he took the car home. The next day a friend of this man came around and they were talking about alarms so they went out to the garage after turning off the garage alarm. He told his friend to rock the car because the alarm was that sensitive, he did and nothing happened, he told him to unlock the door which he did, the alarm was supposed to go off. He took the car back to the alarm company to complain where when they checked the alarm they found that the main control box had been removed. That meant that somebody got through the house and garage security and managed to by pass the car alarm and remove the control box from inside the car.

I liked Stroker's fuel shutoff - saved the car ( not from damage ) but at least from being totally lifted if I remember correctly.

The problem with kill switchs and alarms and such is that people will just show up at your house with a tow truck.  (I have first hand experience).  I would honestly suggest for those of you with nice cars, first buy a fence; put car inside fence.  Second, buy a large and mean dog, or several of them, or some other dangerous animal that people are very scared of; put animal inside fence with car.  Third, buy a gun.  You'll need something to mop up any resistance left over from the dog attack.  I like a 12 gauge pump myself.  I think most people, no matter what their native tongue when they hear the sound a pump shotgun makes when the slide is racked, they understand what that means.  Also anything from 3 inch BBs on up is pretty effective against a lot of things.  If you have some good neighbors with guns and mean dogs that never hurts either.

My theif prevention is a peice of crap car on one side with the fence! and a peice of crap car on the other side!!     if they want it bad enough they are gonna need to tow the peice of crap FIRST then they can have the challenger!! but I figure by then I will hear them and hopefully have been able to call the cops!! it was also suggested by a previous club president to install a webcam in the yard directed at the car!!!
As far as the dangerous dogs? I knew some people who had some nasty dobies in their garage guarding? their mustang the dogs were sleeping and the car was stolen so dogs aren"t fool proof?  :dunno: at least there"s weren't
