Things were pretty lean there today Ryan, as far as handouts and goodies.
We did meet a real cool guy named Scott at a table right by the fuchsia Challenger turntable.  He was some sort of contract research guy working with Dodge for several years on the Challenger.  He had great pictures on his phone of driving a 2008 Challenger around to many different locations around the country a couple years ago including Times Square and Washington DC to get people's reactions to it.  He was very interested in getting feedback and hearing any complaints or suggestions for Challengers. 
Later I stopped by the Challenger area again, and some guy from Dodge who had just given a uconnect demo came over and said, "hey I think you've spent the entire day here with the Challengers!"  I told him I was a Challenger owner and fan, and he said "we have to get you one of the new 40th anniversary brochures"  He took me and my friend Glen who also has a couple Challengers, names and addresses and said they'd get the brochures off in the mail to us in the next few weeks! :thumbsup:

DID you ask...

WHY can't a manual be offered in the SE?

Does the rallye package NEED to be such a price add that it puts it nearly into the R/T range which essentially DEFEATS the purpose of the package?

Will ANY financing offers ever be offered?

Will regular lower grade interior options be available to get the R/T price down to a more reasonable level?

WHY is the only interior option available black/gray?

WHY would you bring plum crazy to the show when you can not even get it now from the dealers AND why was the plum crazy option only available for a SMALL unannounced window in the middle of winter?  Most dealers had no clue about it and of course you can only get it in another 3 to 4k price hike option package.   

Why pink?  Sublime would not pull as well..I highly doubt it...

After that I would suggest walking over to Ford and see some REAL marketing on Mustang it blew Dodge's display away...The rotisserie of the new 5.0 black GT with the glass top was a knock out. 

I love the new car, but to be honest Dodge's marketing and handling of this car is flat out stupefying in my opinion.

Actually I did discuss a number of those issues with the consultant at the show.  Me and my buddy spoke with him for over a half hour.  In fact, the consultant said he posts on several forums looking for feedback, and has got "an earfull" from time to time.
I asked if he ever posted on cc.com but he said no.  He is interested in getting involved in other forums, and since I am active on 3 he gave me his card and said I should contact him to help expand his network of enthusiast contacts.
Among other things we discussed, he said they were aware Dodge is not competitive with the 6 cylinder compared to the Camaro and Mustang and they are working on that.
I said I liked the ralley package but thought (and he agreed) that the exterior appearance group package on the R/T that has the TA scoop, wing spoiler and stripes was a ripoff.
I told him many online had complained quite a bit about the limited edition colors and the fact that many people learn about them when it is too late to order.
I didn't ask about interior colors, as it has already been announced that several more interior color choices are about to available. In fact, both the PCP and furious fuchsia Challengers there had new color interiors.
He said sublime is in the works, either later this model year or early next. He said "everyone" expected it to be the next color and they went with the furious fuchsia just to be "unpredictable" and add an element of surprise.  I asked about go-mango and it isn't in the pipeline yet, but more colors are to come.
He said Chrysler has committed to continue the Challenger through at least the 2014 model year.  The design is supposed to be updated in 2011 I think he said, but that they are having trouble coming up with ideas to change anything without taking away the original Challenger styling cues.
He agreed that Dodge has dropped the ball by not advertising the new Challenger.
He as well as Chrysler also is aware of the problems with the dealers gouging on Challengers, but didn't say what they have or can do to try to control the problems with that.
I said I thought it was cheap how Dodge put a hood strut on the RT instead of of hydraulic cylinders like the SRT8, he said he didn't know why they did that, blamed "beancounters".
I talked a little about concerns with wheel hop.  He did say that the half shafts were beefed up after 2008 and that if I do get any wheel hop with my car, I don't have to worry about breaking anything.
All in all though, he said that most everyone who has bought a new Challenger like me, loves their car, and that very few have had any problems with them, that they have been really reliable and fun cars.

Thanks, I appreciate your insight.

Believe me I am not knocking the car itself.  I would absolutely LOVE to have one, but it just seems a bit too far out of my range for a 6 speed equipped R/T for around 36k.  That is over 600/mo in payments for most reasonable loans and I applaud the guys who can swing a loan like that without eating ramen and cooking with a light bulb, but I don't consider this a reasonable payment in my situation. 

What I am most concerned with is that I have been thoroughly DIS satisfied with the lack of options and the "Pay or be off with you" attitude I receive at the dealerships.  In fact one time last year I went with the Super Bee on a beautiful saturday and parked the car right out front and started walking the line of challengers.  NOT ONE guy came out which totally surprised me...I fully expected it and actually was hopeful I could get a ride and maybe talk trade, but NOTHING!  I can't advertise much better than that...33 year old male with a good looking plum crazy charger easily worth high 20's to low 30's pulls up and walks around looking interested in your latest performance car...nope not a good canditate for us.   :clueless: I have been in a few times after that and most all times I have found the salesmen to be disinterested, too much of a hot shot, and completely ignorant of their product. 

I understand how both camaro and mustang have much deeper history and therefore cult following that will always help to buoy their success, but it seems to me that Dodge is dead set in their limited flexibility on options.  They flat out dropped the ball and I see no good reason why camaro should be fairing better when they (dodge) started a full year earlier AND have a better looking car. 

If the new interiors are the ones shown at the show I will pass.  Those were aftermarket Katskin covers that seem to be an afterthought...does dodge not have the ablity to use their own products?  Is this the same with the manual trannys...do they all have to be tremecs?  I know the Jeep has a RWD with a 5 speed and the 3.7L engine available so I know they have the ability to do this...so what is their goal here by not using there own equipment? 

I am glad to hear that they plan on going to 2014.  That should help control prices, especially used car prices.  Right now the few found are downright ludicrous. 

As for changes I hope they know what they got and change VERY LITTLE.  Stick to cosmetic changes like they did for the ebodies...grilles, emblems, and taillights.  If they change the character line it is doomed.  It would be nice to see if a tasteful retro vinyl top style could be made or as noted a true retro T/A package with a supped up 4.7L and sidepipes maybe. 

A shaker option would be cool, but their accountants will get a hold of that and call it a Daytona - GTX Super Bird option and place a 7k price tag on it... :money:   

Well I want them to be successful and I serioeusly hope someone with some better ideas is righting the ship becasue I am not impressed with what I see now. 

Was there any insite as to why the high impact colors are so limited?  The only motiviation I see is to piss off guys like me and  :money:

The limited edition color issue is a concern, and I would think they will run out of new high impact color ideas to introduce in the near future anyway.  So it will be interesting to see if they just expand the standard color choices on the Challengers to include some formerly limited time ones, or reintroduce some of the limited edition colors for additional short time periods (which would be sort of lame IMO).
On the dealer issue, I don't know what to say on that.  I experienced some of the same problems that you and many others have when stopping at dealerships after the new Challenger came out.  I wasn't ignored when I stopped at Sherman in Skokie and Advantage in Des Plaines, however, the salesmen at both of those places weren't very knowledgeable, and it seemed like they had just just stepped off the boat after coming to the US from some eastern European country.  My dad had bought a Caravan at Sherman some years ago, and went in there a couple years back when it was time for a new one and he was ignored by salesmen.  He ended up going up to Fields in Northfield and bought his Town and Country there and was happy with them. I know several people who have bought new Challengers at Fields and seemed happy with them.
I went 95 miles northwest to Janesville WI and bought my car at Bouchard and was pleased with their service.  When I pulled in I was immediately greeted by a salesman who was friendly and seemed like he knew his product well, and when I told him I had already been talking to their internet sales manager about a new Challenger, he immediately invited me to test drive one.  I have heard stories of other people's experiences with dealers where they went to several dealers and asked for test drives and were not allowed to, or were asked to put down deposits before they would be allowed a test drive.
All I can say is you have to look around and ask around to find a good dealer.  Many suck, but a couple bad apples don't mean that every one is worthless!
My buddy just bought a new SE last month in Wheaton, and he had first stopped at a Chevy dealer to look at the Camaro.  All the Chevy store had in 6 cylinders were loaded with 28K stickers and the dealer wouldn't move on the price.  So he went to the Chrysler dealer in Wheaton and they had a SE just what he wanted, and they knocked 800 or so off the sticker and gave him a good financing rate, and he is happy as can be with his new car.  He bought one with few options but likes to personalize his cars some, so he has already put a trunk lid spoiler on it, and maybe someday he'll get some different wheels or something.
I can say from experience, that car makers not having the options or powertrains that you want available is nothing new.  In the early 90's I liked the Thunderbird SC but didn't want the expensive supercharged engine, complex expensive early generation Teves ABS brakes, etc.  I wanted the "look" and a standard 3.8 V6 backed by a 5 speed manual.  Chevy had something like that with the Camaro, instead of buying a Z28 you could get a RS with a 6 and a manual.  Why couldn't Ford have a rallye version of the Tbird like that, which is what I wanted? ???
I ended up buying a 2 year old used SC back then with 22K miles, I had some problems with the damn brakes, but the supercharged engine was relatively trouble free other than being hard to work on, first car I ever had to pay a mechanic to change the spark plugs!  But I loved that car and owned it over 10 years, still miss it.  Until I got my new R/T 6 speed last year I didn't think I'd ever own a new or late model car again that had the looks, performance, and comfort as good or better than my old 'bird!  :thumbsup:

I was ignored at Sherman and I was kicked out of Advantage for not having cash in hand to buy a car right that minute.

So I went to fields, it was no problem.  Gave me all the discounts available and I got a really good deal.

Maybe there's some hope yet.  I do suppose that some of this is my own frustration at my current situation too.

Personally I am not a fan of buying new.  I have always had used cars and feel no real desire to buy new simply because of the markup.  I have had very good luck finding great deals on low mileage 1 year used cars.  Both my current drivers were like that and that includes my wifes v8 08 commander limited for under 20k.   ;D

If they do keep the car around till 14 theat is encouraging as it should help to lower the ceiling on the used car market.  I am starting to see them trick out for high 20's with very low mileage which is starting to get into my range. 

I must admit though that in comparison to mustangs you really do get a lot more bang for the buck.  I have found several good deals on used low mileage GT's with good options for under 20k which is hard to beat. 

Ohh well we shall see what happens...
