iPod mods for radios.
« on: February 20, 2010 - 07:16:11 PM »
I was thinking of getting a factory 8-track radio for my 1970 Barracuda. I have been looking at the 'correct' AM version, as well as the AM/FM C-body version. My question is : Can anyone recommend a good shop to restore it? ...Who also do an iPod conversion? I'd like to be able to play an iPod/Satellite radio through it while retaining the radio and 8-track's functionality.

Thanks,
Paul

Had mine done at Wards Classicc Radio Repair  They did a nice job.  They will add the ipod option if you wish.

PlumCrazyRTSE,

Was yours an 8-Track?  What did it run you?

Yes, mine is the AM 8-track version and before I sent it in the radio worked but the 8-track didn't.  However, I think it was just that the 8-track belt was broken or slipping.  I can post some before and after pictures if you want.  It cost $190 with shipping and I didn't opt for the ipod jack, that's extra.

I'd appreciate seeing the pics, if it's not too much trouble. I checked their site. I'll try giving them a call on Monday for more info.

Thanks,
Paul

You’re welcome.

Yeah, I had thought about adding the ipod jack to mine when I had it done but I realized that I never turn on the radio while I'm driving anyhow......I just enjoy the sweet sound of the 440 Six-Pack too much to listen to anything else.

I can understand that.  I'm a music nut, though. I enjoy driving to music, so to speak. Besides, mine is going to be F.I., no "wop-waaap" of a six-pack!

I sprung for an AM/FM for my Vert and had Gred at Wards rehap it and install the Ipod connector.   Got it installed last week.   FM Radio works great -- and Ipod is terrific!    Greg did a very nice job.

Thanks for the recomendation VT MOPAR. I'll be shopping for a radio this Summer, and will likely use Ward's for the resto/mod.

 hej crycho how small is one of those amp/stuff and where did you hide it.i have a modern cd-player in my e-body now but im going the delete route as i almost never use the ugly cd player anyway.but a hidden something that would make it possible to listen to radio and traffic/weather reports would be nice
